This intermediate update provide the application with a two-way SMS communication ability, allowing it to alert you to important event messages by SMS (Short Message Service) delivered to your mobile phone. It also allows you to remotely and securely access your AHL/3 home automation system from anywhere in the world by simply sending it an SMS message in plain language, when connected to a suitable modem, such as the inexpensive Option iCON 225 mobile broadband USB stick modem, or other compatible GSM modem. It can even use the GSM modem built-in to some mobile phones connected via a USB cable or paired with a Bluetooth adaptor.

One thing I do with my home brew HA software is communicate via google talk using the .net library Jabber. Works very well. It's pretty cool having a command line driven house :)

If you enjoy controlling your house via the command line, you could do so securely using a telnet client, from virtually any platform in the world, by utilising the program’s built-in server, as well as by e-mail, etc. And because AHL/3 employs a natural language interface, you can do so in plain language. But it’s far from home brew!!
