Speakers for Home Theater

I currently have a Sony DE995 Receiver 7.1. We are planning on redoing our Theater room and I'm considering putting in ceiling or in wall speakers in. I'm looking for recommendations/suggestions on the best way to do this. I'm unsure of both placement of them as well as the best speakers to use. Thanks for your help.

I'd go with free-standing, on-walls, or in-walls for the front and center speakers.

Pick a budget, sky is the limit.

Here is a nice speaker for you, $100K each.

Only slightly used.

Oh, do you have a budget?

I've been pretty happy with Proficient in-ceilings. Nothing special, but solid, well made, and won't break the bank.

I use Proficient for some of my distributed audio zones.

I will get something more expensive then Proficient when I upgrade my LCR speakers. But, it will depend a lot on what I am willing to spend, at that time.

You may want to talk to some local installers, that have demonstration space available.

I would splurge on the LCR, and get much cheaper on the rears.

Yeah the wife would kill me if I bought those speakers. Looking to stay in the 2k range. I had thought about looking at the proficient as that's what I have outside and they have been good speakers.

<--- has a NIB In-Wall Center Channel for sale if you are interested :)

With your budget, I would look at Totem Acoustic's Mask series. If possible, don't put the rear channels in the ceiling. You will be MUCH happier if they are in wall, slightly behind and a couple of feet above your ears. Lastly, do not skimp on the rear channels. That is lousy advice. Panning effects suffer greatly when people mismatch speakers.
