Ok, so I installed this thing < http://www.asafehome.net/ >
It seems to work fine, except I have 2 issues.
My door strike does NOT retract when closing the door and if I push the door in far enough for the anti-credit card nub (the little half circle on the back of the striker), I can't get the dead bolt to engage.
My question is really in regards to the first issue, as the second issue is a matter of making sure the door is sealed enough when the dead bolt engages, then grinding a little material away for the half circle nub to fit. OR making the dead bolt hole a little larger (say 1/8").
So, the question. TO make my striker retract automatically again, the smooth curved part of the striker needs to be pulled in about 1/16" - 1/8". I've never had to adjust this before, as if there was an issue, you just used a chisel and cut the strike plate into the door jamb a little deeper.
SO, is there a way to adjust how far OUT the striker sits? The holes for the door were pre-drilled. Either they are in the wrong location, or this particular door strike is longer then my last one.
Don't strikes typically sit with the smooth angled side JUST starting to angle in AT the side wall of the door? Or do they typically stick out a bit farther?
I'm not terribly knowledgeable on this subject...so any help or ideas about things I can look at or try would be appreciated!
Thanks ahead of time!
