Sweet magnetic wire puller

If you get the magnet, then you can also use those metal cheap beaded chains they sell by the foot at hardware stores. Connect about 2 feet to the end of a wire, and drop it in wall.

Works really well.

The Magnespot looks neat too. You can purchase them in set of fours markers or get three additional markers if already own the Magnespot.

LSD is carrying them and adding their label. So any of the distributors in Canada that carries the LSD line should have it or be able to order it. The LSD part # from the catalog is 85-130. The one pictured in the LSD catalog (page 63) is the old model case. The newer case appears more sturdy, organized, and better looking. Plus the newer case has a spot to hold your Magnespot case.

Thinkgeek used to have these mini R/C army tanks with a UHF video camera on the top of them. I think it was about $100 for the whole setup, and if you had multiples, you could battle with the IR guns on them viewing everything remotely over the cams.

I almost bought one a few years ago to run a wire through a duct in my house. They don't seem to have them anymore, and a quick search on google didn't turn up anything.

Looking at that site its 35 for the largest magnet (the roller) and somewhere between 5 and 15 for the drop magnet. Add a case and the additional handle etc and 100 bucks isn't bad.

Make you own tools...It adds to the whole DIY experience. Use a coat hanger, a magnet from a round 1" door contact and some plumbers chain (as previously stated) and you can custom mount the components with Super 33 electrical tape. An infinitely adjustable combination.

You can also use all-thread, conduit, etc to get what you need done.

The Magnespot looks neat too.

I agree it looks neato but if you look at their site(I didnt read the manual so I could be wrong here), the sensor will give a tone and light when within 3-4 inches of the reference marker. in my book thats 3-4 inches in each direction. So I could actually be on the wrong side of a wall at it's extremes. At first you dont succeed, try again... man now I'm 3 inches the other way...... which may not be a bad thing if you are mounting a speaker but for a PIR or Glassbreak sensor.

Im sure you get my thoughts by now...

I bought this and tried to use it. The problem is down in florida all the studs are metal and the bullet you drop in the hole is magnetic too so it just sticks to the studs. Also if you have insulation it is pretty hopeless.
