Tivo repair

My wife is in panic mode this morning as her Tivo drive has failed to boot. I haven't looked at the browser interface in quit a while but did notice failure messages coming from the Smartdrive features last week and ordered a new drive. It failed totally last night though. She is now in a panic and I'm wondering if I could just use a linux FSCK on it to keep it going another day or so? I have found that I can DD the old to the new drive and it should work versus using MFSTools.

Look up instantcake. It will reimage a hard drive but you need the correct version for your model. I think it's like $20? I used it once but it was a while back. I probably still have it around, if you post your model number you may be able to use mine instead of buying it.

Thanks Frunpie. I have instant cake from many years ago and some Tivo repair boot disks.

I created an image backup/with Tivo Web browser build in tools of this one with the serial number for DR but I have to utilize an old PC with CD rom drive on it.

I was trying to short cut the whole process without using MFSTools.

I've booted into Linux and it doesn't even show partition information on the drive; so it looks like I have to use instant cake (MFSTools) but it might be too late on the repair piece.

I found my Roger Rabbit custom ISO. Its two part and it takes about 15 or so minutes to create a new Tivo MM hard drive Roger Rabbit setup. Works well; only thing is that my wife lost her "stuff". Drive is shot so couldn't get anything from it. Its on a temp to get her going though...wow its like a drug...she started to pace around the house....
