Touchscreen Servers

It's not just that I think Windows sucks, but it's also that I don't want to give money to Microsoft just on principle. I would happily shell out the money for CQC, but I'm not going to spend $80 or whatever it is for a copy of windows. The copy I have running now in a VM came with a laptop I purchased like 3 years ago and installed Linux on.

I've been using various forms of Unix for the past 19 years, this is what I'm comfortable with. Windows seems like a toy to me. I do have to work with it on a regular basis in very large environments, but I don't have to like it. :)

This betwin sounds interestiing...since it's unlikely that i would be using more than 1 touch screen in an intensive way at the same time i wonder if you can run 2 or more ELO's of one a T57** ...this would be pretty energy and cost efficient as well. The ELO's would have to be USB which doesnt appear to be a problem and i believe the t57**'s can be had wiht a PCI expension card..which presumably would take the PCI video card.

I don't suppose anybody has tried this? My 2nd and nth touch screen are probably a good bit of time out, but i suppose i could test it with one ELO, PCI video card, a regular monitor and mouse.

Just read in the Betwin manual...:

For the BeTwin VS software to work correctly, the Station's USB Keyboard and USB Mouse
must be configured to use Microsoft native USB Keyboard and USB Mouse driver
respectively; All third parties' USB Keyboard and USB Mouse drivers and/or utilities need to
be uninstalled.. If the mouse and keyboard still do not work properly, please contact the
manufacturer of those devices for assistance.

So I'm not so use this can work with an ELO since i dont think there are microsoft drivers for it right?

I've run CQC on as little as 256mb memory. Thats running both the IV interface and admin interface at the same time as a test to see how much memory it does run (this was on a HP thin client, so it's possible a full Windows OS might use more memory). That being said, I try to put at least 512mb memory in the t5720's that I run. They will take up to 1 gb memory.

Betwin will work with serial based touchscreens and USB touchscreens.

The thing to watch is that the touch driver has to support multiple touchscreens (does not have to be a MS driver).

I have done testing with two serial touchscreens on one PC with CQC and Betwin and it worked flawlessly.

Part of the setup is to identify which screen (touch etc) belongs to which session.

There is a demo available for Betwin. Unfortunately they have changed their pricing model and it is now 99 per seat - it was much cheaper when I tested a couple of years ago.

As for Windows, I find it is usually the extra app that cause problems or the inexperienced user. I have XP machines here that have an up time of 99.9% (running 24x7). It is not hard to do when you know how (and there is not much to know).

I have to agree. My HP t5730 client (touchscreen) machine has been rock solid.

In general, my experience with Windows just doesn't jive with all the negative comments I see. I run CQC on a Windows Home Server box along with SageTV. It just doesn't give me any trouble.

I am using 3 Touchtronix screens, all running UTMA sessions from my CQC master server. Touchtronix looks to be out of business now, but you could do the same thing with some NComputing boxes and some inexpensive touchscreens.

What I love about this is that each screen can be its own session, and run a different interface. I also love that I only have to upgrade (as I did this weekend..CQC 3.0.2) the master server, and not a bunch of different compters (or stand alone tablets).
