Transmitting links with UPB/HAI switches

I have a new house with a Omni II and a bunch of HAI switches. I am experimenting with Upstart software. I would like to make a switch for one light turn on another light when double tapped. I was going to do that by setting up a link with the Upstart software.

When I went to do it, I see that all the HAI switches already have a “transmit component” set up for both tap and double tap. It is set to “status button”. In the description, it says this is used to transmit light levels. My question is can I change that transmit component to do something else like activate another link? Or, will that screw up something else like keeping track of the light's status?

You can use the "custom" feature in Upstart.
You need to select a link to transmit and then the option (which is null button greyed out) will be available.
Make the single tap transmit status, which transmits the state of the local load.
Make the double tap activate, which transmits the selected link.

Either action will turn on the local load. You can try the "Last light level" option for double tap, but I think that will have undesirable results.

It's possible the Omni will get out of sync if it doesn't request a status from the switch when you transmit the link.
If it is a link associated with the same room as the switch, the Omni will automatically send a status request for all units in the room.
I can't remember if the Omni requests status when it sees "any" action from a switch or just the link actions. I believe the latter.
If you check the "report light level when switch is pressed" option, I believe it always reports status when the switch is pressed.
