TV Control via IR w/ RS232 feedback

I have Pioneer and LG tv's that I control both via IR and rs-232. When I control them via IR remote, nothing is sent out of their serial ports (which sucks for keeping display buttons in synch).

Does anyone know of a TV line that can be controlled by IR, but then also sends out a confirmation command via rs-232?

For what it is worth, my Onkyo recievers (TX-SR804's) do this perfectly. I can send commands to them (IR or serially), and then they send out a serial confirmation. I am looking for a TV line that behaves in the same manner (to keep my touchscreen buttons in perfect synch).

Ideas?

Most TVs will reply with their status if polled. So that is what most automation systems will do. They will send the status commands every so often (500 milliseconds apart for example). That way any change made from the IR remote or the TV itself will quickly be noticed and updated on the touch screen.

That seems like a whole lot of un-needed serial traffic.

I would have to poll power state, then input state, then possibley channel, vol level etc......

I use PowerHome (which could set up to do this), but unless I am thinking about status polling all wrong, this could get ugly fast.

I'm (hopefully) going to be in the market for a new LCD tv somewhere in the 42-46" range or so.

Any recommendations for a reasonable quality unit that will work nicely with CQC? I guess by budget woudl be somewhere between $1000-2000

I've seen some newer TV's with ethernet on them that allow the TV to talk to netflix and the tv. Would be able to controlt he TV through the same port? Connecting via a TCP/IP port would bring us really into the current century ....

Are you sure it's netflix? I thought it was (oy, whatever the Blockbuster equivalent is)

Yeah, it was Netflix. They are partnering with LG for Netflix-ready TVs. Here is an article about it.

Edit: Thought I might throw in the Roku Digital Video Player that streams Netflix and Amazon (SD and HD) movies with more channels to come. I was an early adopter and love it. For $100, you can't beat it. Probably pick up a second for the master.
