Universal Controller Ideas

I am a trying to get a list of ideas for things to add to my universal controller I am designing for my HTC EVO phone. I am a Girder/Netremote user and an another memeber (HTLuke) has put together a pretty nice app so far. I have a basic layout so far with all the normal play/pause, channel, vol, and some buttons for xbox 360 control or DVD controls.

I have an ELK that can be controlled with Girder so I have screen layout for that and also in process of making something for my lights.

So I am trying to get some things that you wouldn't normally think you can do on a controller but can with this because its connected to you Automation Server.



Some thoughts so far:

I was thinking you change the channel to ESPN on bottom of controller is RSS feed for ESPN or maybe grab sports scores. (App will let you embed a browser into the layout)

Someone rings doorbell screen shows camera with button under it with option to unlock the door

Have a page of channel icons of your favorite channels

Just keep in mind that the more things you add, the slower it will get. No need to cram everything into that tiny screen

Very true. The most important thing is for this to work as well as say a Harmony but I just wanted to get list of ideas that I can pick from. I was thinking someone might come up with something pretty cool that was a "must have".

Make sure you think about security. If someone finds your phone, and they have an evil side, they might try to figure out how it is talking to your server, and access it from another device at a later date (so make sure there is some sort of authentication which can be disabled at your house).

Very cool images but I think that keys will be too small on the mobile phone. Maybe if you use 7" tablet.
