Weird situation with M1

Hi All,

I'm programming my M1G and was setting up the telephone to communicate to next alarm.

All seemed to work ok.

Then i turned on the setting the gives an audible aleer after the communication with the central station is complete. Now when i arm in away mode, open the door to leave the timer expires and the system arms...then a few seconds later the dailer completes and hangs up at which point the away mode exit timer restarts....when it elapses it all seems good, then dailer hangs up and it starts all over again...

When i turn the audible signal announced central station communication complete off it all works as expected...this has me a bit puzzled...i don't plan to keep this setting on permanently...but it's something i thought i ought to report nevertheless.

Anybody else run into this? Maybe i'm doing something wrong..

You have the "Closing Ring Back" Turned ON! This feature is for commercial accounts that want to verify that central station connection is established everytime the system is armed.

It works this way:
Arm the system.
The M1 sends a closing message to the central station.
The central station acknowledges the message.
The M1 gives an audible message kissoff receipt.
The exit timer restarts so that you can leave the building.

Normal residential operation does not use "Closing Ring Back" or Closing messages to the central station unless you pay extra for them.

ah ok..i knew there must have been an explanation with the most likely one being that i was doing something wrong

I get a bit confused with closing and 'arming'.... doesn't the ELK reporting every arming/disarm event to the central station?

You need to turn off the Opening and Closing Reporting Codes in the communicator setup. Unless you are paying for opening/closing messages, your central station will not want to be receiving them.

If this is the case does the Elk only report if you have an actual alarm? I thought most alarm systems always called in to report armings and disarming...

Maybe i'm confusing..the house i grew up in was attached to my dads business and our house alarm was somehow tied into that...so maybe we were on a commercial setup.

How do i know if the dailer is actually working? It seems to take a long time for the Elk to detect a phone fault.

Yes, the Elk can be configured to report every arming & disarming. But the residential arm/disarm process is much simpler than a commercial open/close process.

How do i know if the dailer is actually working? It seems to take a long time for the Elk to detect a phone fault.

I guess that would depend upon the monitoring service you use. With the NextAlarm notify-only service, I get an email daily at 9 AM from the system test.

There are two communicator status LEDs on the left side of the M1 PCB. When both are on the M1 is communicating. One of the LEDs is for a in house telephone off hook.

You can go to user menu 8 and turn on the Butt Set Mode and listen to the communicator as it sends data to the central station.

Line fault is a programmable number in the communicator setup. If the number of dialer attempts run out without a kissoff from the central station, you will get a phone fault. If the telephone line voltage goes away for the time setting in the communicator setup, you will get a phone fault. A good transmission to the central station is required to clear the phone fault or power cycle the control.
