What are the most sensitive motion detectors for triggering lighting??

Hi,

I have tried a couple of motion detectors to trigger lighting (HAI triggeres UPB Lights) and they seemed not very sensitive. The first one I tried was a microwave/ir combo. Probably great for false alarm immunity but not very sensitive. Next onr I tried used a fresnel lens..still not great. Does anyone recommend a verys sensitive motion detector that will pick up the slightest movement but will not easily false?

I have done some research and its seems that the mirror optic detectors are most sensitive

Has anyone had success with other detectors for this dual role?

What was the make/model of the dual tech you tried? Thats usually the best there is, now if you adjust the microwave to let 150lb dogs pass it'll work as you discribe. Look for adjustment pots.

I like the Honeywell IIRC DT-7235, you can make it pretty damn sensitive but it also can be set to allow a pretty decent sized dog to pass.

What you need is a true "occupancy" sensor instead of a "security" sensor. Most will be ultrasonic based devices and can't reliably be used for security, but make a great way for controlling lights as they will switch on quickly and also pick up very small movements to keep the lights on while you're in the room.

Below is a quick link... I think I've posted more information in another thread about some models I've used in the past if you'd like to search:

Thanks again...I have not used an occupancy sensor before...and am recondiering how I control lights with this unit. In the past I really only did path type lighting..areas where you would not be for long...using a statndard motion in a dual role, but with this I possibly could do living areas...

Hi,

I was using a bosch DS835i. I do not think it had pulse count...only microwave adjustment. Now that I look at it, it says its a tri-tech
