Where should I get a 12v DC 16 channel power supply for my CCTV setup?

Hi,

I think my CCTV 16CH 12V power supply is dying. The fan became pretty loud over the last week & I am guessing its on its way to a noisey death.

Instead of just getting an Ebay power supply (though I did get the first one through a CCTV forum vendor), I was curious if anyone had a recommendation on where to get a new unit?

Thanks,
Rich

Altronix and Preferred Power Products have some nice units. What kind of current are you looking at?

Why not just replace the fan?

Im not sure how to do that? Is that difficult?

I will have to take a look at what I have now but I will look for those brand names.

I will post back with more info on what I have.

Replacing the fan is usually fairly easy, but don't take this the wrong way, if you are asking "is that difficult", then it might be more difficult for you than for someone with some tinkering experience.

General process: Note which way the fan blows currently and its size, order a fan, take it down, power it off for a half-hour or so (to let any stored energy bleed off just to be safe), open it up and replace the fan, checking that it's blowing the same way and approximately "as strong" a fan, and re-install.

That might sound like a lot, but if it's a common fan size, you could be looking at longer waiting to work on it than to actually do the rest of it. It's not for everyone, but if it's just a fan, you might be looking at $10-20, inc shipping, and 15 minutes of effort, and you'll know 100% that you have the right power supply with all the right connections, etc.

I would do a search on the model number of the fan to see the specs. Look for the voltage and current ratings and the CFM. Then look for the same fan (if available) or equivalent ratings in a fan of the same size.

Check your local PC repair shop as most of the ones I have experience with usually have standard size fans in stock or laying around.
80mm and 120mm are standard sizes among some others.

Edit: Even Radio Shack might have some in stock. (For a price though)
