Wire UPB Lighting

I am going to go with your advice to not share the neutral on a different circuit and ordered a SA wire in module relay.

Before you go to the expense of a module relay, can you move one of the breaker for the other switch or your light such that they are on the same phase in your breaker box? That would eliminae any concerns about sharing a neutral at the switch.

I am going to go with your advice to not share the neutral on a different circuit and ordered a SA wire in module relay. I will then use a auxillary switch or 6 button controller at the light switch junction box as they will not require a neutral. Is that correct? I sure hope so, thanks so much guys for all your help.

Remember, if you use the wire-in module at the light, the switch loop is no longer necessary. As such, you could then use those wires and tie them to line, neutral, and ground in the light fixture. This way, you now have the neutral at the box. You are not limited to modules that work without a neutral.

I have not seen a wire-in dimmer module that works with an auxiliary switch, although it seems like it would be a good idea. All the ones I've seen need to receive UPB commands. What you maybe can do is wire the US-240 into the other circuit in your box and don't connect it to a load. It will work without being connected to a load; just cap off the brown wire. Set it up with Upstart so it sends a UPB link, and then program the dimmer module in the fixture box to receive that link.

Or: what is the other load being controlled in that two-gang box? Maybe use the US-240 to control it too. Get a two-rocker plate and set up the second one to send a link to control your dimmer module.

Yes they do make a wired in dimmer module. The model is UFD. Capping the brown wire of a regular dimmer is not a problem. Simple Automated even makes a switch that doesn't control a load directly, but its pretty hard to find and it won't save you much money.

Controlling a light remotely like you plan works great. I do it in two locations. You'd be hard-pressed to know the switch wasn't directly controlling the light.
