Wow factor

Mine are unlit, so a simple contact closure was fine. And, that's what I phased on - hook up your doorbell to an Elk zone, then have the WAV playback above ring a custom sound doorbell. On Halloween, make it a scream. On Xmas, make it a ho-ho-ho. On New Years Eve, make it Dick Clark's voice.

Wife thought that was cool too.

I switched to an unlit button so there's no voltage. I like switching the WAV files also. I've had the monday night football theme playing this fall.

The button doesn't "create" the voltage. The voltage is still there. The switch is completing the circuit (which requires a voltage).

What Lit doorbells do is bridge the switch contacts with a bulb filament. If you are monitoring the voltage, it will not go to zero, as the light is passing the current a tad via the filament. If you have a receiver that is adjustable for "Off" state (not zero voltage), then you can monitor the doorbell activity of a Lit button as well.

Sorry I should have explained more. There is no power at all. Just a ds10 with the doorbell wires and the button. The transformer is not used at all any more.
