Z-Wave control that is OS independent ?

Hi all,

I am fishing for information.

My backround for this question:
I have been a WinXP user since the 'it' was released (yup I even used Win 3.1).
I have also experimented with Linux OSs since about Win 3.1.
The latest Ubuntu (10.10) is almost something I could use 100% of the time.
I do not want to keep pouring money into OSs that require add on security costs for virus protection.
I have, in the past, developed my own software and have learned to despise Microsoft as arrogant (bleep) 'sterds.

Without WINE being an option...
Might there be a Z-Wave 'box' that has a internet interface?
Might this box be programmable in some useful way?

I am a HomeSeer user from way back and find HS meets 100% of my 'Microsoft' needs. I just need to move on now.

Thanks.

Ken

What about Mi Casa Verde?

Thanks for mentioning that. I am going to do a little more research on the device. Off hand it looks exactly like what I am needing .

Edit added:
I would invite comments from anyone who has had experience with the 'Mi Casa Verde'. Specifically about:
Can remote access be set up without their subscription service?
What type of controls (if any) are in place for video capture, or is it just a DVR?
How well do 'events' execute (example: motion detector -> light on/off)?
Any and all comments are appreciated.
