Two wireless networking standards, Z-Wave and ZigBee, are competing to become the standard for automated home control. Z-Wave, a proprietary technology developed by Zensys A/S of Denmark, is focusing exclusively on the residential market. ZigBee, an IEEE802.15.4-based standard proposed by a large group of worldwide manufacturers represented by the ZigBee Alliance, has a broader focus that includes both home and commercial control systems.
