Self monitoring with asterisk or ?

I have an M1 Gold in my house. 
I have an asterisk server on a *BIG* UPS. 
 
Has anyone ever had the Elk talk to the asterisk server to call the fire department or police in case of an alarm situation?  Would that qualify as a monitored setup for insurance purposes?
 
I'm specifically talking about an automated setup where the alarm condition triggers an event / dial out
to the appropriate authority using an automated message, *NOT* something i have to monitor myself.  I don't want to be the weak link and it seems like this could be a good system to implement.

You would have to check if that's even allowed in your area - automated direct calls to the fire or police departments may be prohibited.

Yeah - in most areas that's actually illegal - the authorities want that coming through a central station, and it would still require the usual permits.
