Make Elk-73 Speaker Beep Upon Entering Home? (but not KP2)

I've got an iPad mounted at my front door (running eKeypad), along with an Elk-73 speaker mounted behind it in the wall.

Since my KP2 keypad is mounted inside the M1 cabinet, I've got that volume turned off (I dont want to give away the position of my security system by having the KP2 beeping) + the M1 is inside a room in the house where it would be heard and basically be annoying.

Is there a way to program in the RP software to have my Elk-73 have countdown beeps when I enter the home?  That is, lets say I have 30 seconds to disarm the system when I enter the home.  I would like that 30 seconds to beep.

However, I don't want to have it beep when I arm the system to leave (also have 30 seconds once armed to leave).

Hope that makes sense.

Is this doable?  Any help is much appreciated!!

Under keypad settings, there are two options that should do what you need.

 "Silent during entry delay"
 "Silent during exit delay"

In addition to the above, to get sounds out of your speakers, I think a few rules would let you play the 800mhz beep (I forget exact frequency but it's something like that) - and have it repeat until the countdown timer is up.  Not as good as a beep but it's something.

I personally like the exit/entry sounds - lets you know when the countdown timer is about to expire - and if anyone is around, I like having a loud "Armed, Away" play while the door is open as I'm leaving - reminds people that the house is protected and sounds a hair better than your average generic system.

Thanks. I guess my problem isn't getting the physical KP2 keypad to make sounds...it's that I want the KP2 muted, but have the sounds it would make (such as a countdown timer) play through the Elk-73 speaker that I have mounted behind the iPad.

The KP2 is installed in my security panel can right next to the M1. For this reason I would like it to be silent, but play a countdown timer via the Elk 73 speaker that I ran behind the iPad.

Any ideas if that is possible? Or do I have to get another KP2 and run it behind the iPad as well to have beeping in that location?

Thanks!

Rules....

Thanks for that tip DELInstallations.

Ok...I was sort of wrong with what I was asking for/explaining earlier.

That is...I have an ELK SP12 behind the iPad (not a 73 as stated earlier).  However, I do also have an Elk-73 right by the front door, and if that was do do the beeping, that would be find too.  I need either the Elk-SP12 or the Elk-73 to beep when the entry timer starts.

Just played with the rules.  When the countdown timer starts, I can set the KP2 to beep using the rules.  (not what I'm after as I want the KP2 to be silent).

Also, I can set the Elk-73 to chirp, which would work as its right be the door too...except...it chirps very loud.  I know I can lower the volume on it, but the problem is I want it to chirp loudly during an alarm event, however, want it to chirp much softer during the entry timer rule.  Is that possible?

Or, I guess as I was incorrectly asking, is it possible to silence the KP2, but have entry timer beeps from thh SP12?

Again, all help is much appreciated!!  My biggest problem right now is that the wife "forgets" we have an alarm now until 30 seconds after she arrives home or lets the dogs out in the morning, and the Elk-73 is screaming.

I guess I didn't go into enough detail in my previous post...  I clearly understand your objectives and thought I'd given some tips...

1) Disabling the keypad sounds is easy enough

2)  Use rules - what I was hinting to above.  Program something like the following:
WHENEVER Entry Delay Starts
Turn on Output 100 for 2 Seconds
Whenever Output 100 Turns off AND System is Armed THEN Speak Miscellaneous 1 (vm239)  THEN turn on output 100 for 2 seconds   ** In custom sounds, make that sound just a 800hz tone

Basically - you open the door; after 2 seconds, output 100 turns off, plays the beep, then restarts the timer - every 2 seconds checking to see if the system is still armed - as long as it is, it'll keep resetting this tone.

It may not be perfect but it should be a starting point you can tweak from.

Keep in mind you can also record a custom sound which could be a beep of sorts at a lower volume even - it's done through the telephone but using an inline adapter such as this you should be able get a decent quality recording... that device has a switch for record and playback - in playback mode, you put it between the handset and phone and plug the 1/8" plug into a headphone jack and whatever it picks up plays into the phone.
