Those that view Mjepg with iphone/ipad

Since I updated to ios 9 from ios 6, my cams all freeze after 5 seconds of viewing. ANyone else having this happen?

How are you viewing the camera feeds? Are you going straight to the cameras pages to do this?

Any reason not to use a 3rd party app for viewing?

I'm using a 3rd party app called: Eye see u. Same thing happens.

The streaming will work fine on a device that has iOS 6 but anything new or it freezes after five seconds. Even on an iPad with Wi-Fi only. I have my old iPhone 5 here with iOS 6 and it works flawlessly. But I've tried three or four iPhone sixes with iOS 8 and above in the exact same thing happens on all Apple devices now.

I follow now. I assume it's your cameras that are outputting mjpeg video then, and even the app is just passing that stream along. Do your cameras offer any option to use a different codec?

My cameras output H.264 and I've had no such issues with remote viewing.

I suspect the app is causing the problem not being fully compatible with the new IOS. I've used "IP Cam Viewer Pro" since IOS 5 up to current IOS 9 with no problems.

Mike.

Correct. The IP video server, made by Vivotek is mjpeg output. Doesn't matter if I use the app, or go directly to the cams in the iphone browser. After 5-10 seconds, the feed freezes. This does not happen with Ios 6 and 7. Haven't tested anything on ios8, as I don't have anything on that one. I can say, I've tried multiple phones and ipads on ios 9 and same thing happens.

Mike.
It's not the app, since the same thing happens in Safari browser.

Have you ever compared a mjpeg stream to a H.264 stream (of the same camera/feed) and monitored the difference in the data rate?

I have no way to do that or test that. My cams are not h.264. I'm always viewing from a smart phone anyway, so I know the other cams might be clearer, but I'm not on a hard connection to see benefits.

When you stated earlier that you were using an IP video server, I assumed that you have analog cameras. Is that not the case?

I meant in the sense of bandwidth - mjpeg is a data HOG! The benefit would not only be video quality but also a much less data usage, particularly when viewing over a cellular network on a phone.

I don't know that much about the cams, but they take an ethernet plug, I guess they are analog. My plan is unlimited data, so I'm covered there. But I'm not going to replace this system that has always worked great and took 35 hours to install. :)
