Recommend a good retractable AC cord?

Can anyone tell me of a retractable electric cord that they have had good luck with. I have four different ones here and three have failed in that the spring won't retract the cord anymore. I have repaired them but the way that the metal is stamped they just slip again after a while. One of the failed ones is Snap-On brand and the other two are generic.

The fourth is a "Retract-o-Matic made by Leviton/Electricord that has lasted many years without failing but I can't find a new replacement anywhere.

Any recommendations?

Mike.

EDIT - I should have mentioned that I'm talking about the general type of AC cord that you see in a garage, say 18 - 14 gauge.

No personal experience here, but have you tried adding the terms industrial or commercial to your Google search?

Used to purchase a bunch from Granger a few years back.  They have a variety of what you are looking for there.

Funny thing about Grainger. I tried to buy something from them online a few years ago and they actually called me on the phone and asked me if I had a tax ID. I told them no and they refused the order. I never looked at their web site again after that.

One of the things that I noticed about these reels is that they may be affected by the cold weather. The wire becomes stiff and that may be causing the mechanical failures that I've had with them. There are so many brand names out there that I may have to shop based on price rather than brand. I was sure that the Snap-on would be a good reel but it didn't even last a year. Many brands and all using the same cheap parts.

Personally I like those reel extension cords that are hung on the ceiling.

Yes I am talking about a reel that is mounted to a wall or ceiling about 30' to 50' long. I have no problem finding a large assortment of these things on the net but I'm looking for personal experience with a particular brand. I'm tired of buying reels that fall apart.

I've actually had good luck with my Craftsman commercial reel model 83928. It's a 30 ft 10 amp unit but I regularly plug in a 12 amp saw with no problem. Had it for 12 years now.

Have you found anything Mike?

Here a few weeks back preheated the garage and put the car on jacks, put a rug down to have a close up on the underbelly and feel asleep.

No I didn't buy a wire spool, I fixed the old one again.I put the spring back in place and it lasts a while before it slips again One of these days when I'm bored I'm going to put a spot weld on teh thing.

Are you serious about falling asleep? I'm still laughing as I type this.
