CQC Version 5.2 is released

Just a heads up to let you guys know that we have released 5.2 of our CQC automation platform. The primary focus of this release was non-Windows touch screen clients. Our flagship touch screen client is Windows based, but we have always had Android and iOS thin clients that work via our RIVA system. RIVA is our Remote Interface Viewer Architecture, which allows for the creation of very thin CQC touch screen clients. However, those were third party products, and we needed to get that functionality in-house and under our control.

We didn't want to have to support native clients on multiple platforms, so we developed a browser based RIVA client. The results have been very gratifying. It's very vast and reliable, and it means we aren't just limited to Android and iOS touch screen clients, any platform with a sufficiently modern browser will work.

Another big area of concentration was to improve our documentation for newcomers. It is often the case when diving into a significant new system that you feel like you are going in circles and can't find a place to plant the flag and start exploring in earnest.

So we have re-layered our HTML help so that there is a 'big picture' layer, which provides very high level descriptions of the major features and capabilities of CQC, and which point you into the 'More Details' and 'Reference' sections which provide more in-depth information.

Also the main landing page provides a basic map of what you need to know and where to start looking, which will hopefully help newbies find a path through the trees.

You can download the product for an unencumbered 40 day trial at our web site (www.charmedquark.com), just use the Get Started link at the top. A link to the documentation is at the bottom of each page if you want to just do some exploring.

We are of course happy to get any feedback on the help and how it might be improved.

A change in the Windows 10 Creator fall updates will cause a problem in CQC, where various CQC programs will go into an infinite loop and eat up all of your CPU. A new 5.2.1 version has been posted to the web site that takes care of this issue.

Anyone using a version prior to 5.2.1 should upgrade before they allow the Windows fall updates or they will get bitten by this issue. Any Windows version prior to this fall update (which is 1709 I believe) do not cause this issue, though of course it's possible that some patch may cause the same change at some point.
