M1 Gold Zone Expansion Board placed remotely

Greetings from Colombia,

As I'm planning out the conduit for the various sensors, Catx, electrical in this filiform house, I'm starting to wonder:

Rather than doing homeruns for two dozen sensor cables for 150', wouldn't it make sense to put a zone expander closeby and just run a bus-cable to the M1 Gold?

Totally doable.  I've always had an expansion cabinet in my garage for input and outputs,

Its up to whatever  is more convenient for you, need to keep in mind the bus length requirements, etc.  I ended up replacing some wireless  zones with wired and had limited conduit space, so instead ran a cat5 and expander versus homeruns.   Be aware that  this only serves your two-wire sensors.   For 4-wire (motions, etc) you still have to get power to them as well.    The only thing I can think of is to drag a power pair over and maybe break it out with a terminal strip or PD-9.  Maybe someone else here can chime in with a more convenient solution for that.

You can do a remote aux power supply and battery even - that'll let you run all the motions you need to.  The P212S is a supervised power supply that talks on the RS485 bus.  https://www.elkproducts.com/product-catalog/elk-p212s-supervised-remote-power-supply  The manual will explain how to hook up the power so that the downstream products are powered by this supply.
