Sub Woofer Audio Cable - Oh Crap!

Another option is to use an in-wall sub with an external amplifier. I plan to use one in my next home and this would be exactly how I will wire for that.

There are obviously cheaper options, but here are some suggestions:

In-wall sub:

Amplifier:

EDIT: Apparently already suggested, I totally missed this post:

Another option - use a passive subwoofer, fed by a speaker level output from a subwoofer amp located at the equipment.

A Viking PA-60 or similar paging amplifier could also be had and function quite well. Of course, you need to determine what the SPL and THD are going to be and the input frequency range.....remember a lot of a sub is academic vs. what humans can actually hear.

I wouldn't do in-wall sub for many reasons.....generally you can get better performance other ways. A favorite is suspending a ported unit within a floor joist space and running the ports up into a dummy heating register.

I did an infinite baffle- my basement (unfinished) is the "enclosure". Only downside to this (and any other inwall/floor) is that you can't change the position to tune the room. If you have a bad null you are stuck with it. Otherwise smooth and flat response...
