Garage Area Woes - Disarm or Bypass?

Ok, back on topic :)   So, I don't feel comfortable with buying any more wiring for my setup.  It's probably easier then it sounds.   Keep as currently setup, with garage foyer door disarming the garage.  It rearms when all doors (including overhead) are closed...and the interior zone is armed...

Garage Area Woes - Disarm or Bypass?

I'd prefer to use nothing but the alarm system for safety systems.   I'm not sure if I could build a shunt without buying additional output hardware or wiring.  I wired the elk myself, so I understand the basics.  But wouldn't creating a physical "bypass" require me to turn off the EL...

Garage Area Woes - Disarm or Bypass?

Thanks all!  I uber appreciate all the ideas and confirmations.       It seems like: Confirmed bypass of a single device (even using an Elk rule) not possible on already armed area. (easiest solution). Confirmed I can't hear another areas on a keypad. I can: Use HomeSeer alerts over my Russound...

Garage Area Woes - Disarm or Bypass?

Thanks for the insight.    In my case, the garage entry door is NOT burglary point.  It's non-alarm.   The only alarm zones are the overhead door and the motion.   Right now, if I open the attached garage  foyer door, I disarm  #2 area.   I'd prefer to just bypass the sensor if it's in area...

Garage Area Woes - Disarm or Bypass?

I have an Elk M1 EZ8 (connected to a HomeSeer automation controller).   My problem is the garage.   I have the following as #2 area in Elk m1 Zone (with no keypad for area #2): Garage Overhead Door Sensor Garage Foyer Entry Door Garage Motion Sensor   Right now, I have the #1 area (interior...

    Troubleshooting z-wave instability with Vera

Yes, set "Automatically Configure" to No (after you've configured it correctly and it's working).   Ditto on buying Leviton for stability.  I have 18 Leviton dimmers that work without issue.     However, I do like the power metering on the Aeon's not that I have them.

    Troubleshooting z-wave instability with Vera

Minimote button issues is known issue.  Set it not to be configured (vs the default setting).   Otherwise, the button mappings get messed up on the Vera heal process.    i threw out my two leviton plugin modules after they have became unresponsive (until power cycled).  I had 3 of them.  I have...

    Network controllable HDMI switch?

Gotcha, same reason I didn't get a matrix...too expensive.   Well, I did notice this latest GC POE serial device (didn't have that when I looked last year).  That will solve the the power brick issue...and a little double sided tape will make a "single box" solution with an POE ethernet switch...

    Network controllable HDMI switch?

I currently have a $80 single source HDMI switch (1x8) that feeds my bedroom/bath/living TV's using my WMC HTPC.    Audio is overhead speakers (TV speakers disabled) and video is HDMI.   The 4 bedroom TV's also are smart DLNA and using the TV remote/Table Temote and MediaBrowser Server...I can...

Looking for an outdoor Megapixel IP camera

I dig ISpy.  if you go this route, these commands are will let you automate it:   HTTP API Access (start recording on motion, stop recording, firing events, etc.): http://www.ispyconnect.com/userguide-http.aspx   Use iSpy as a "repeater" for JPEG (full or resized) and MJPEG streams to other...

Security DVR Software for IP Cameras

Ditto on ISpy.  It supports simple HTTP requests to start/stop recording based on things like Motion Sensors from your HA or security system.   More details here: http://forum.micasaverde.com/index.php/topic,23781.0.html

    Minimum Acceptable Gauge Wire

Thanks RAL!  I think I'm OK based on your info.   My 19" is only 6 watts (I put 10w as buffer): http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN19F4000-19-Inch-720p-60Hz/dp/B00BCGRZ04    I just replaced an 55" LCD conventional backlit...with a LED backlit...the power dropped from 280 watts to 45watts average...

    Minimum Acceptable Gauge Wire

I'm wired my motion sensors (Z-Wave) using Cat6.   I only run 5vDC over 1 pair of the wires to provide mains powered.   I have one run where current I'm drawing is 12v over Cat5 for a 19" LCD bathroom TV (using all 4 pairs).  I think it's about 10 watts.   Am I causing a fire hazard by using...

    Building a new home

No way, I had a ton of problems :)  Mostly do to one or two bad devices flooding the network of 100+. Z-Wave has a really short range of 15ft, so just one or two devices is harder to get good mesh coverage. Working well now though.   I feel the new Z-Wave Plus is going to make the devices all...
