No noise on UPB one day - unusable the next

Sorry to revive an old topic, but I had this same issue just 2-3 months ago. My neighbor did some construction on his house and I suddenly had a ton of noise. The good news is I fixed it pretty inexpensively... (Ymmv) I put in a lot of UPB filters in my house. Huh? Yep. I guessed that my...

    UPB phase coupler poll

I am using the simple "plug it in the dryer power outlet" kind... seems to work well. :D

WHA experts: help with my well laid-out DIY plan

JRiver supports multiple independent zones in 1 software instance. So using the Delta 410 card, I have 4 unique zones available using 1 PC. You don't need to use the 410 card, there are probably others out there... My music PC is also my Sage server - so it's truly a multimedia server - all 6...

WHA experts: help with my well laid-out DIY plan

it appears you want each amp in each room? That means if you are centralizing your storage, each amp would need a way to get the signals. The other option (that I went with) is to centralize the amps and run speakerlevel wiring to each room. The PC is using a Delta 410 card - basically 4...

    Caddx NX8 V2 Programing question

sorry - I don't use the software either... I do all the programming through the keypad.

    IR control with Buffalo components

One other possibility is that you have other devices flooding your signal. LCD and Plasma TVs for example can spew tons of IR which would hide your signal. Sunlight and florescent lights can be other culprits. Sometimes repositioning the receiver helps. If it's real bad, you can buy special...

Best practice for TV/HT/Audio setup? Central or Distributed?

Just to give you another idea on video distribution (Collin was touching on it with Cat5 wiring recommendations)... I like the SageTV concept... install video server in your closet which records everything and plays your DVDs, and then put small extenders at each TV (connected via Cat5). Much...

    HAI UPB PIM problem

I have my PIM plugged into an outlet that is plugged into a UPS... no issues :) The only time I've had UPB issues with UPS's is when the power is out and I need to turn off a device plugged into a UPS.

    What's the #$@#$ point??

I like the idea of the delayed screamers inside the house... Are you talking about something like this?? BTW - I have little hooks mounted on doors I don't want the kids to accidentally open. They are big enough now that they could easily open it themselves, but its a good reminder that the...

    What To Do about DirecTV?

Saw your note about IR... I use serial control on 3 boxes... no issues - highly recommended. As for bandwidth - I have a dedicated video network - seperate from my PC network. I did a test with 3 HD extenders and 1 MVP running 4 HD shows (required 1 show to be transcoded), while recording 3 HD...

    Planning for SageTV

I'd considering adding an antenna if possible for your local channels. The HD quality is outstanding (no compression)... plus you aren't dependent on cable QAM anymore. True, you won't get ESPN (or whatever through it), but if you want local channels - an antenna can't be beat for quality.

    HAI Lighting...UPB Feedback from links

Glad it's working. But do you really need to query every 5 minutes? Doesn't your Omni recognize when a link command is issued? Just set up a macro so whenever a link command is issued, it then checks all your switches. Otherwise seems like a lot of overhead checking every 5 minutes, plus if...

    What To Do about DirecTV?

I hesitate to answer since you seem to be an expert at this ;) I have the H20 HiDef receiver (standard with new installs I believe). It's OK... not lightening quick. I'd guess it takes about 2 seconds to change channels, for it to tune in, and then display a picture. I don't want anything...

    HAI Lighting...UPB Feedback from links

I'm not sure how you would do it in the omni or elk. In HVPro, I added a short macro that advances from switch to switch and asks for it's current status. I have two types of update routines: 1) queries all switches - does this at infrequent periods (overnight, after leaving house, etc)...

    What To Do about DirecTV?

IVB is right. But I doubt you will still be happy surfing with it. I have 3 serially controlled, and there is still a big lag... caused by Sage. It has to tune the satellites, record to disk, then start displaying. It's not fast... If I have to surf (never), I have a seperate DirecTV...
