Best Practice for Elk M1 periodic testing

We recommend testing with an actual alarm (i.e. arm the system, open up as many things as possible, let the siren sound, disarm it) once a month. That's in addition to whatever periodic automatic tests you have set in your system, which you can set as frequently as you like. It may be overkill...

    Uplink setup verification

Is it a safe assumption that with an Elk system, the Uplink will be using the direct serial connection? With the majority of systems, the Uplink uses the siren output.

    NextAlarm ABN

If you have a standard phone line, there's no reason to not just use that. The only advantages of the ABN adapter are that it doesn't tie up your phone, and that we poll the adapter every few minutes and can tell you if it goes offline.

The 2102 will work, except with the newer DSC systems. When you ask for the settings to enter into the adapter, be sure to specify that it is a 2102 since there are a couple of extra settings that need to go in.

    NextAlarm ABN

You own the ABN adapter, and you can do anything you want with it. Sell it, reprovision it for a VoIP service (the hardware is just a standard Linksys PAP2T, no secret there), whatever you like. It does come with an admin password set, but we'll provide it to you on request. What you said...

    NextAlarm ABN

Hi everyone, Sorry I stopped posting here. The sole reason for that was I never had any updates on our Elk IP support, and since that's what the security forum here is all about, I didn't see a reason to keep posting. I see now that that wasn't the right thing to do, and I'll be around from...

    Elk Internet based monitoring

Well, we can't guarantee reliability, so we might not receive every signal, or your system might be retrying every signal several times before it finally successfully communicates, but if it works, it works. What I would recommend you do is get a telephone test set (butt set) and listen to...

    Elk Internet based monitoring

We don't have an Elk in the office at this time to test with (we've been using a Simon with a GE Ethernet module, which uses the same receiver software), but there should be options in the Elk programming to make it send signals via IP rather than via phone line. We'll give you an IP address...

    Elk Internet based monitoring

I know it's taking forever, and I'm hesistant at this point to say anything regarding specific timeframes about it in case I'm wrong again, but it definitely is coming. Some other projects ended up taking priority over it, which is unfortunate but is just the way things turned out. I am...

You have a reply to your service ticket that explains things. I do recommend changing the report code in your panel as described in the reply, since it is possible to do that with HAI systems.

Wow, that's really strange. Would anyone who is experiencing this System Busy problem either PM me your account information, or open a customer service ticket from our site? This is honestly the first we've heard of it. That message would be shown if our site were down for maintenance or...

No specific update at this time, just the "Coming soon" that I seem to be throwing out far too often . That and the Osborne-Hoffman are the next big projects for us. We did just show some very nice video features at ISC, which use a standard Linksys webcam and tie it into both your...

It's purely a licensing issue. Amcest is licensed in a few areas where we are not. We've basically duplicated our service at Amcest for this reason. You'll still receive exactly the same features and prices, including Elk IP monitoring as soon as its available. The only difference is that...

    finally :)

Hi, We'll contact you in most cases before dispatching. The exceptions are panic alarms (which includes panic buttons on the keypad, remote panic keychains or pendants, and the duress code) and fire alarms. If you just forget to disarm the system before you open the door to get the paper or...

    Elk Internet based monitoring

I really can't make any guarantees, but at this point I would say hold off on buying an ABN adapter if you have an Elk system.
