    email privacy

The short answer:  there is no such thing as completely secure, private email if you use it in a public (internet) setting.     The issue is that the "public" email systems in place today do not fully support encryption of the details of the email or the metadata, so that someone along the way...

    [Home Automation Software] HomeSeer

It is important to note that HS3's Ocelot plugin is severely limited and does not support all functions of the Ocelot.  In fact, the HS3 Ocelot plugin has been made open source and currently is and will not be worked on by HomeSeer Technologies.

    Homeseer 2 and Tasker

Thanks Al, I got it before you posted this.  I'm doing it this way:    who = Request.QueryString("home")    Response.Write (who)   Seems to be working just fine.

    Homeseer 2 and Tasker

Thanks Sparkman1, but I can't seem to get Request.QueryString to work in my HS2 ASP pages.  Is there something I'm missing?  Do you know of any example code I can look at?

    Homeseer 2 and Tasker

I'm still running HS2 and probably won't upgrade to HS3 as it still doesn't fully support the Ocelot family of controllers upon which my system relies.  And I'm cheap!  So first off, I'm looking for solutions that work with HS2.   I have Tasker on my Android and I can do a lot with it, but I'm...

Thoughts on why my motion lights keep "blowing out"

In my experience, the types of lights that use a "switch flick" to turn on and stay on are prone to almost any sort of powerline noise or power issues, and often enter that mode with almost no other noticeable power issues.  I've never had good luck hooking those to any kind of powerline...

HA system that allows voice commands via VoIP (SIP)?

I'm interested in having an HA system that integrates into my SIP-based PBX, allowing me to call its extension and speaking commands to trigger events, change device settings, etc.  Does anyone know of such an HA system that has this functionality now?

What do you use for phone automation/ivrs?

I have just started down this road after trying various things over the years.  Open-air mics around the house don't work - they invariably false-trigger.  I'm looking for voice control via a SIP-based VoIP solution.  I'm currently playing with SipXecs as the core PBX solution (easy to get up...

You might live in upstate New York ...

Given the way some of you guys drive up there, 123, I'm sure this is a good thing! hehehe :P I've been up to visit my brother in a Montreal suburb a few times this fall and probably willbe some time again soon. He's working some projects for Alcoa up that way.

    FTP Server Recommendation

The FTP log you posted does not show a direct upload/overwrite - it shows a unique upload filename, then a rename to the original file name, which is what is failing (the RNTO/550 error). Is there an option in the Axis FTP parameters that may be causing this behavior? Perhaps it is labeled as...

Trouble with Port forwarding Cameras/ HAI DVR

Please excuse my ignorance, because I know nothing of the HAI system. So this may be a stupid question: Are you saying you have two devices - the Panel and the DVR, and they are both assigned the same IP address?

    Subwoofer placement

PaulD, I doubt the subwoofer will cause electrical issues being close to other equipment (but anything's possible). The larger issue will be the muffling of the sub's output, and vibration (and what that causes). Now if you have a turntable in the same cabinet, you'll know about vibrations...

    Software for mapping wiring networks

I'm in IT, and even here we use products that are basically frameworks that need a lot (a LOT) of customizing to work in your own environment. Even with systems and protocol standards, these frameworks still need discovery processes that search and interogate network nodes and collect and store...

    Microsoft TechNet

TechNet is a good deal, but there are sometimes limitations on the software keys when it comes time to upgrade, migrate, or apply security packs, etc. In the past some evaluation copies of software packages were time-limited with Technet keys, as well. I'd not use TechNet keys in a production...

    DNS poisoning exploit

There are very sophisticated security systems that can be put in place on web sites and browsers to thwart many DNS spoofs, but it's still possible with the right programming to run a "man in the middle" attack where the hacker has a site that passes most info through to/from your destination...
