Poll: Elk and Insteon - what is the future?

Elk WILL be supporting the PLM from Smarthome for Insteon. In fact, the Beta firmware that is needed for the Elk is already out and being tested and seems to work fine with no problems. The final release should come soon. I would not recommend staying with the PLC since the PLM is more stable...

    Time and Date

Setting the time is done in ElkRP. Click on the tab on the top row that says Send/Rec. You also have to correctly set the ylocation for the overall time. That is done under the "Ffolder items" in "Automation", Sunrise/Sunset. It would make more sense if they put them both in one place!

Your thoughts: Elk M1 or HAI Omni Pro II

You can cut the light bars very easily and they will not shatter. I tried various items and what works best is a long pair of "sharp" scissors. The light bars have taps on the side that make them fit in the switches straight up and the tabs have to be maintained on each section of the light...

Your thoughts: Elk M1 or HAI Omni Pro II

I did the research also like you and went with the Elk because if had more options and better support and better price. It has worked perfectly and with ease. I am also using Insteon with it and have about 70 switches of different types including KeypadLincs. The Insteon setup, linked and...

    Automation options for shades/blinds

I'm currently using the Somfy blinds and they work well and are of high quality. I have the RF remote and using a combination of AC and battery operated shades since AC was not near some of the shades. Have not tired to automate them yet with the Insteon or Elk but if someone has some ideas on...

    Front Door Bell/Camera/Intercom

    SmartHomeUSA 15% off sale

The above link I think may be a false link and does not apply to Smarthome. The link address list it as Smarthome USA not "Smarthome" and Smarthome reps have no idea of this sale or the web link it goes to.

    Multi-Camera recording?

Since you already have the cameras and a computer, all you really need is a good capture card and software. Check this out: http://www.ezwatchstore.com/ezwatch-pro-features.php They have everything you need and should cover your what you are trying to accomplish with the least expense.

    Elk telephone setup

Check page 21 of the User's Manual and that may help you. Basically, wait for the answering machine message to end, Press "***" then follow the prompts.

    Giving Up On Insteon

As an alternative to Insteon, one would be best to consider UPB. It is rock solid reliable, has lots of different switch types, controls CFLs with no problem, doesn't flicker, switches don't fail, has excellent software to support the install and setup, and it just plain works well! The price...

    Test INSTEON now or wait?

Thanks Spanky.... One topic that was mentioned earlier that will affect my setup is that I will be using the Elk to turn on multiple lights or issue multiple commands without using Groups or Scenes. Will Elk be adding the feature soon to input a delay between commands to reliably control the...

    Test INSTEON now or wait?

I just went to the PowerHome web site and looked at the Quick Start Guide. It is a little overwhelming! Are there any instructions on using it just for the the Insteon features and something to help a first timer? To be honest, I was lost after reading the Guide! I know it will do most of...
