The State of Matter (Home Assistant Blog)

Not surprising. It's a differentiator. AFAIK, HASS is the only only 3rd party platform that is a complete Matter system. E.g. You can't enroll a Matter device to Hubitat without having a Samsung/Apple/Google/Amazon controller enroll it first and then put it in pairing mode. Given how Amazon...

    Trident will make z-wave chips

Pretty sure SiLab is happy about this. They are the ones that opened the chipset to other manufacturers. If having two chip suppliers helps device manufacturers be willing to ship z-wave devices, it's a long term win.

    Trident will make z-wave chips

Trident IoT is a new chip company that claims to be taping out their z-wave chips within a month and sending samples to customers before the end of the year. This would end the "single source" limitation of z-wave. Trident-based devices probably would not hit the market until late 2024/early...

Homeseer Znet now acts as zwave- and zigbee-ethernet adapter for HS4 and HomeAssistant

HomeSeer has updated their ZNet product to support Zigbee as well as Z-Wave. In addition to HS4, the ZNet can be used with HomeAssistant via ZwaveJS and Serial over IP for Zigbee. For anyone not familiar with the ZNet, it's a custom Pi-based device with an integrated Z-Wave radio. Users...

Zooz Zen-32 5 button in-wall zwave scene controller

This a hard-wired scene controller that can also directly control a single load (on/off, no dimming). The load should not exceed 3A motors, 1800w resistive load, 150W of LEDs or 960W of incandescent. The load is normally controlled by the main button but it can be set to work only by zwave or...

Anyone using Z-Wave 800 series hardware yet?

Zwave LR introduces a wider spread spectrum signal, meaning it uses more frequencies and is more capable of avoiding interference. However most of the RFI you mention is nowhere near 900Mhz. Wifi :2.4ghz or 5ghz Bluetooth 2.4ghz cell phones : 600-700mhz, 1.2ghz-6hz and 30-300ghz electric...

Community Reviews HomeSeer HS4PRO Smart Home Software

Might need clarification that the original Hometroller was released in 1999 but that HS4 was released in 2019. Other items I feel worth noting: Runs on Window or Linux On Windows can accept explicit voice commands with no cloud required Can use 3rd party mobile apps (i.e. HSBuddy) or a web...

Is anyone using Minoston Z-Wave Switch Products?

This is thread necromancy, but it's near the top of the forum so whatever. I have one of the minoston outdoor plugs. It hasn't actually gone outdoors as it got snagged for indoor holiday displays then moved to run a lamp, where it runs on a schedule twice a day. I can't complain about it but...

    Shelly.cloud announces zwave product line

There was a recent announcement that Shelly will start selling zwave modules, the Shelly Qubino Wave 1 and Shelly Qubino Wave 1PM. This is probably just a minor revamp of Qubino's existing product line as Shelly acquired Qubino the end of last year. While not really a new addition the zwave...

Anyone using Z-Wave 800 series hardware yet?

Oh, I am sure that you can get a mile with mains power and no exterior walls in the desert or the flattest part of Kansas. Which are both real and in the world, so "real world" Getting 2x or more the range on battery devices and a quarter mile for powered devices like gates is a pretty nice...

Anyone using Z-Wave 800 series hardware yet?

Here is two real world tests: https://drzwave.blog/2022/11/23/how-far-does-z-wave-long-range-reach/ TL;Dr regular zwave reached 100-150m (to the edge of a strong mesh) Zwave LR battery powered device 200-350m Zwave LR mains powered devices 300m-? (>350m) Note that the yellow "zwave mesh"...

Anyone using Z-Wave 800 series hardware yet?

Had to check to be sure, but in HomeSeer there is a single zwave command "Send Network information to another Controller and make it Primary". Install a new zwave stick along side the old one, run that command, wait for all the devices to get migrated, unmount the old stick, move on with life.

Anyone using Z-Wave 800 series hardware yet?

Depends on your controller. I use HomeSeer, so for me it would be a controller shift followed by a network optimization to ensure neighbors are current.

Anyone using Z-Wave 800 series hardware yet?

Couldn't you do a controller shift and move all the devices from one stick to the other?

    Future of Z-Wave and Zigbee

There's no simple way to address that issue short of a total revamp of the core routing. Even that would be rate limited by the bandwidth, collision avoidance, and routing. Popcorn is only a problem once you have a few dozen devices and are using it for mass device control where you can see...
