    RelayTouch-UTMA Touch Screen Review

Looks very promising! Thanks for the review, BSR. One question -- does RedRadio have any intention of coming out with a stand-alone version of the touchscreen, in addition to the in-wall version? Thanks, Ken

Need help deciding on HA solution

Johnny: I can't offer much advice on the HA aspects of your question, b/c I'm just getting into HA myself. But I do currently use CQC for all of my home theater automation. Like you, most of my original HT components were IR controlled. But I slowly started upgrading them to RS232 because I...

    New Home Construction Project

Paul: I agree with IVB -- that is a nice clean set of user interfaces and a top-notch appliction of ML and Homeseer -- one of the best I've seen. If you are planning to go into business installing similar systems, I'd heartily recommend taking a close look at CQC in addition to ML/Homeseer...

How to distribute DVD player w/ Digital Cable ?

Jamie is right -- your options all depend upon what infrastructure you have in place. If you have Cat5 in plance, you can distribute via Cat5 by using baluns at either end (active ones work best) and a distribution amp or switcher at the head end.

    New Home Construction Project

I decided to pull all of my own speedwrap with the help of a friend. I also did all of my own terminations. There are things I would do differently, but I'd probably chose to do it myself again, rather than hire a pro just for the wire. In my case, which was a much smaller job, it was a choice...

    New Home Construction Project

I take it the house doesn't have a basement? You're right -- it's a challenge to figure out where to put an equipment closet. One thought might be to put it in the garage and then do a built-in cabinet in the theater for the theater equipment, DVD storage, etc. The garage would house the...

Some Qs about Z-Wave Light Switches

Brian: Good advice. In checking out the Intermatic product line, I didn't see a supported thermostat of any kind. Are there any plans afoot for Intermatic to produce a Z-Wave thermostat? At this point, the alternative seem to be ACT and RCS. Is this correct? Thanks, Ken

Some Qs about Z-Wave Light Switches

Gunther: One of the main reasons is the fact that Z-Wave is directly supported by CQC, which I've chosen for control of my home theater and whole-house audio system. I'm just now taking my first baby steps into home automation and decided to start with Z-wave control over a few lamps and...

    CQC 1.5 Info

Hey ph0n33z: Good to see you over here and at CQC from the AVSForum. Your situation reminds me of where I was 3 years ago as the addition to our home was starting. I knew I wanted to add a HT, and I had permission from the wife to do so, but the construction was taking SO AGONIZINGLY LONG. So...

Some Qs about Z-Wave Light Switches

I'm in the process of converting a couple of rooms to Z-Wave control, but had a few a questions for those of you who've gone before. 1. I'm controlling 3 sets of recessed ceiling lights, all of which are on 3-way circuits. Each circuit has a single dimmer switch and a single on/off switch...

    Serial port over IP

From my (the aforementioned customer) perspective, the remote port server is fantastic. It took about 3 seconds for me to configure it on my end, and I watched Dean turn on my plasma from across the country. In record time, he's now delivered a fully-functioning device driver for my Panasonic...

    Serial port over IP

IMO, enabling a software-based method for remote user access to serial ports would be a great feature and selling point for home and theater automation software. Having just gone through the pain of purchasing and configuring a hardware-based serial server (a 2-port unit from Atop, sold by...

    Temperature triggered relay

This is exactly what I would need: http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/SMET05.html Now, I just need to find an equivalent for 120vac. Aha -- perhaps this? http://www.kkontrols.com/poth.html Perhaps this is similar to what John mentioned as available at Lowes or HD .. .. Thanks, Ken
