    Remote download of Elk log?

I apologize if I am asking a really basic question that is answered many times before. Though, after searching, I could not find any results on this. This last weekend, my Elk M1 triggered an alarm state while my wife and I were both away from home. It was at this point that I realized I have...

    Elk M1G/ M1XEP connection problems

By the statement, "allocated static IP address to M1XEP using the MAC address", I assume this to mean that you "reserved" and IP for the specified MAC address in your router's DHCP software. This way, the ELKRP client should get a specified IP when the DHCP client requests one. If this is what...

    Elk M1G/ M1XEP connection problems

Of course, step #1 is to ensure that your M1XEP has the latest firmware. From there, the best way to diagnose your problem would be to use a packet sniffer like "Wireshark". I have personally always used the Linux version. However, I am please to see there are Windows versions too...

    Why won't M1XEP work with a mac?

Thank you very much for the post! Disabling the html user/pass in the Elk M1-EXP configuration fixed the connection issue! Specifically, I am connecting via Firefox on Ubuntu Jaunty with the Sun 1.6.x JVM and applet plug-in installed. I can now FINALLY fully utilize the very expensive piece...

    Why won't M1XEP work with a mac?

The applet does not work on Ubuntu Jaunty either. I tried to debug it briefly by turning on the Java console for logging. No "errors" are being written to the log at all. However, my guess is that the SSL socket is failing to connect. So, now we know: * The applet is not working on a Max...

    High-Def Video Server Example

There are several ways you can reduce this kind of false alarm actually. The most common thing to do is to setup zones with dependencies. For example, you could say: * Lawn zone is a secondary type zone where it will only alarm if a primary zone is alarmed first. Then, you define perimeter...

    High-Def Video Server Example

I have read a few posts recently where members here were curious about video surveillance options. Thus, I thought I would give a short demo of my system in case any one might be interested. Cameras: * 2 x Axis 207MW Megapixel cameras capable of 1280x1024. However, this is a very tall...

Can the ELK M1G call out on an alternate line?

My first question is why do you need a POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) telephone line at all? I am not familiar with Vonage exactly. However, I run my own Asterisk VOIP server which my alarm panel dials through just fine. In my case, I have an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) right inside...

    Elk M1 foiled a break-in

Actually: Route 1: POTS Telephone lines, Rout 2: Broadband (cable). Even so, yes, I plan to add a cell backup as soon as I heal enough to do the wiring and installation. Sure, I will be happy to. However, I think it might help others if I post a whole new thread demoing the video surveillance...

    Elk M1 foiled a break-in

Thanks to all for the feedback! The wife and I spent the weekends and days in-between working on security in general. My first order of business was the Elk of course. In general, I have taken the strategy that there are now at least 2 security points for every point of failure. For...

    Elk M1 foiled a break-in

I am glad it helped with motivation. However, I am just as guilty. My lack of testing and leaving things in an unfinished state almost really cost me. Funny, we just talked about GunVaults today! My primary objection has been that some one could just pick up the safe and walk away with it...

pc based dvr with DVRNET soft , what r my options??

I just posted about this twice today, but my personal recommendation is "ZoneAlarm". The product is Linux-based. However, you can run it from within a virtualmachine such as VirtualBox if need be. I hope this helps give you some ideas.

    CCTV Software

Just to throw out another option, I am choosing to skip the capture card all together and just use network cameras. Of the various brands, some of the network cameras are really pretty professional too. I already have a few Panasonics inside the house and now am adding two Axis 207MW megapixel...

    Elk M1 foiled a break-in

Thanks for the good wishes. I am really grateful and feel that things turned out the best they possibly could have. If there is a silver lining, this is it. Actually, I just placed an order for two Axis wireless cameras today. My wife actually demanded the purchase. I am going to...
