    Low voltage wiring charges?

Also greatly affected by market. (economy...) I worked for one company that charged $125 US per hour and just the next town over charged $80 US per hour for the same work. Both places have same gas rates, utilities, etc... The only difference I could see was maybe tax rate different in both...

What Guage Wire for motion detectors

Also, worth noting that solid wire especially in harsh environments such as warehouses and outdoors will likely get brittle with age and temperature. I have on occation used cat5 to wire security. (rather, I have used a cat5 that wasn't being used on customers network to avoid some exposed...

    Lock Bumping

I have seen people that have had their door locks picked. There is a was you can fashion a coat hanger in less than 5 minutes that will make a "pick gun". I found one left in a house I was installing an alarm for where a robbery had happened. The homeowner was baffled at what it was. Picking...

    Lock Bumping

There is a cheaper way, it is simple to defeat bumping if you understand the mechanics of how it works. (was a locksmith once) Like those marble swingie thingies (yes that is a technical term) I just took the last few pin stacks and removed the top pin and replaced it with slightly...

    nigh vision camera question

most IR cams have a black foam rubber gasket that goes between the lens and the glass so IR leak is not a problem... you could use the material from the bottom of a mousepad and cut a circle gasket and place it between window glass and the lens so the reflection would be outside the lenses view...

    Anyone use this camera outside?

I don't care for non-verifocal my self. I have used some like this and they perform ok. It is a little difficult to get a useful picture out of it. (one that could be used to get a conviction) What area are you thinking of covering with this? (Should be alright for close in small areas. ) I...

Simple alarm system for small apartment

My main problem with the self contained systems like Lynx, Simon, etc...(one where keypad and dialer and system are one unit) is that unless GSMR or GSMI monitoring, all the bad guy has to do is come in a entry exit point and simply rip the panel off the wall and disconnect telco and he is home...

Anyone used these wireless sensors with an Elk-M1G?

If wireless is a must and discretion is needed, I either use 5816 loop 1 with transmitter above the window. or perhaps a 5818 (I think that is the recessed) but I don't use that much. Some like the 5820s and the micras but I don't like battery life / range especially if WIFI is close...

Anyone used these wireless sensors with an Elk-M1G?

With the micra. BEWARE OF LIMITED RANGE. I have had many go-backs from our techs not being mindful of the antenna and also placing these devices too far from the receiver (loss of supervision (check)). We don't use them any more. They do look slick though.

    Securing a sliding patio door?

also, if you feel you still want to use a plunger type, GRI does have one where a screw goes in the plunger and is used to set depth. (It is a little on the cheesy side though.)
