Squintz, I can get to step three. While holding the include button, I tried to tap the ZTW100 4 times. Nothing happens. How did you manage to do it as your secondary controller? Did you tap it 4 times or did you do it some other way? Thanks, Charley

Hi, I'm trying to install the ZTW100 to control a dimmer module, but I can't get it to "associate" with my primary controller. I have the Intermatic HA09 and can include the ZTW100, but can not "associate" it. Any suggestion, help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Charley

Hi, I just installed a handful of intermatic dimmers and noticed that the ramp up speed is slow. Is there anyway to change that? I have HomeSeer SE, which doesn't seem to have this functionally. Does the full version have this capabilities? Thanks, Charley

Bruce, Thanks for the reply. I have a few UPB devices installed as part of a test run. During the test, I encountered several switches where there are no neutral wire in the J-Box. A few of those, I do not see any outlets nearby, so I can not easily run neutral wires into the box. Z-Wave...

Okay, given that connecting the neutral to ground may not be electrically sound wiring practive, I am going to give Z-Wave a try and bridge the communication between UPB with a PC Software of Home Automation controller? Any suggestions?

Here's an update from my test yesterday. I connected the neutral to the load lead and that results in interesting lighting fireworks... Apparently there's enough electricity travelling through the bulbs. When I connected the neutral to ground, everything worked fine. I guess the big question...

I guess I can just try this to see if it works. Let's say that I have recessed lighting and the load wire are wired to the lights in parallel, would the UPB signal travel the road of least resistance and not go through any of the lights? Unless there is a major safety issue, I'm going to give...

Thanks for all the replies... I think I am getting a much better idea of how these switches work. What if I connect the UPB neutral lead to the load lead. Would this not serve the same purpose as the 2 wire Z-Wave/X10 switch? Or does it need the neutral to send UPB signals and the path...

Do you mean that the ZWave 2-wire switch will only work if there is current flowing through it? That means that if it is off, it will not receive signals or any break in the circuit will cause this problem. I better hope that none of my recessed lighting is wired serially...

Steve: A few of the switches does have nearby outlets, but they are not on the same circuit. Is it safe to pull a neutral from a different circuit? I would still be stuck with 2 outlets that I need to completely rewire, which isn't as bad, but I would still like to avoid.

Smarthome makes switches that does not require a neutral wire, but it's for X10. I had wanted to avoid that.

Right now, I am not planning on getting a controller for just lighting control. Eventually, when I get into security and HT setup, I would look into a controller.
