Isn't this essentially the same project as creating a cat5-based Elk serial cable, right? Just with a different plug?

Hi everyone!

Alas, my super cheap batch is all gone. I think all but 12 sold to cocoontech people. Thank you , Sam.

I will sell the same model with a plexiglas bezel and other mounting goodies for $150 starting next week to the cocoontech folks and bezels alone for $25. My day job has distracted me from the bezel project and other commitments related to the the sale of these babies. If I could, I'd devote a few weeks to this project because it's really a lot of fun.

My batch of stands will arrive next week some time and they'll be available for $10. These are super nice stands that have 2 way swivels and height adjustment.

If I ever take some pics of my bezel (Sheesh! What's with this guy anyway! :^) My trusty Photosmart became photostupid a few days ago and my replacement Coolpix has not arrived yet. ) you'll see the way I have handled the control panel is to swing it out and down, so the buttons are accessible through pinholes along the bottom edge of the bezel below the screen. The control panel has about 6" of extra length. If you reroute the cable (which involves removing the LCD) you can get about 10" of free cable.

Funny, since I put it in my wall I have not touched the controls once. Not once.

Some people have asked me what the PC board on the back and the red/black twisted pair are. It's just for an external mono speaker. The PC board combines the stereo speaker output from the internal amp into a mono amplified signal. You can remove the PC board if you want as well as the cable harness.

Has everyone who asked for foam tape received it? Let me know if you didn't. By the way- the stick side of the tape goes against the bezel, not sticky side against the touchpanel.

I may have a little info to help with your tracking problem. I hooked up one of these units to my Fujitsu 3500 until I find a small pc to run it. It's running windows 2000 and tracks fine. Another unit is being run by a xppro machine and doesn't track. I then decide to hook that unit up to a second 3500 and it tracks fine then also. I used the same driver for all the machines. Maybe some of you smart people can get to the bottom of this. Since I'm clueless on this stuff my 3500's run these screens great but the xp pro machine is very slow and has similiar hardware. Does windows 2000 run that much better on a low powered machine?

Interesting... This definitely says that is is a software problem, and not a hardware / limitation of the Emitters being used, in this type of screen. Now, where to find the correct drivers for XP, that will allow this system to work as well as it does on 2000.

Anyone, (Santi :) ) have any suggestions?
 
Because my pc's are under my basement steps and two of the screens are mounted in the "stair" walls I used these cables. I will include a picture of the " command center" under the steps and you'll see why the cables didn't need to be very long. The one screen is mounted just above this location and the other is a few feet away.
1-20ft vga
1-10ft vga
2-15ft usb
1- 6ft usb ext.

The master bath screen is being run by the Fujitsu 3500 sitting in the sink cabinet. That's temporary and I'm not sure what my long term solution will be there. I do have 2 cat5e cables run to that location. I'm considering some cat5 extenders, a multi head video card and letting my Homeseer machine run all three screens + the regular monitor. From what I have found on the net getting multiple usb screens to work on the same computer can be tricky though. If anybody has 3 or more usb screens working together on 1 computer I would like to know if that's a good idea or not.

Great picture! Now that I have seen that it is possible to install this screen on top of a stud by carving it out (I was worried about having to remove too much wood), it should make things easier.
 
I just purchased som 1545L touchscreens on ebay (no bezel or bracket) and plan on mounting in wall. Pics above look great ! I will try to follow the recipe shown. Where did you happen to find the bracket? Did it come with the screen? ANy suggestions on where I can purchase?
