17-second calls from random phone numbers...

Hi. I have received 4 phone numbers, each with duration between 16 to 17 seconds, and I did not have enough time to answer the phone.as they just hung up while my softphones are ringing (I have 2 computers (Windows and Ubuntu with X-Lite and Twinkle respectively) each hooked up to my home PBX server running trixbox CE). Using Twinkle (not X-Lite), I'm able to keep all the records I get that is claimed to be from ADA (I think it's American Diabetes Association, according to other reports in whocalled.us). What I'm thinking is that

(My SIP provider is CallCentric.)

Granted, my phone number is not registered in National Do Not Call Registry, but I've not received any telemarketing calls. However, I'm not sure if telemarketers are really behind those kinds of schemes claiming to be from ADA. I have not gotten any calls from a same phone number; they're just "random."

This is my first time getting something suspicious like this within 4 days. Other than registering my phone number at the National Do Not Call Registry, what can I do if I get a randomized call claiming to be from ADA?

When a phone rings, you have to pick one of two things:
  • answer it
  • ignore it
If you want to minimize calls, register at www.donotcall.gov and wait 31 days.

I didn't even stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

Grayson; I am on the Do Not Call List and still get calls.
There are EXEMPTIONS so some organizations can still call you.
I let Caller ID show who is calling and ignore most. Then let the answering machine do the "Sorry I can't Answer Now" routine.
Another thing I do is see the ID. Pick up the phone for about one second and hang up. Just long enough to trigger their answered routine in the auto dialer.
