17A00-9 Expansion Boards Questions

I had a few questions as I start to fill out my zones on my OmniPro II.

Can you share a single power supply among multiple 17A00-9? I don't plan to use any of the output zones so not sure how much current I will be drawing?

Will there be a error generated if I don't connect a battery to the 17A00-9? I am not planning to use it for security functions or life safety functions?

Is there a noticeable delay between zones on this board verse those on the OPII or the expanders attached via the ribbon cable? I plan to use this for things like turning on closet lights when the doors are opened or occupancy and other sensors of that type. So for elements like detecting a closet door open, I would like the response to be as fast as the built in board.

P.S. - HAI It would be great if expansion were a bit easier than the 17A00-9 makes it. The elk can be expanded to 208 zones with pretty cheap expansion boards. There seems to be some pros to the 17A00-9 for remote locations. But It would be great if HAI had a good choice for non-remote zones. A 32 or 64 zone expander board w/ no outputs would be about perfect :-)

While it may be possible to power multiple 17A00's off the same transformer, it is not a good idea. If you overdraw the transformer you will have issues, if you lose the transformer, all boards go down instead of just the one.

They will complain about not having batteries (a lot).

Response speed should be almost identical between the two.

If you do not need outputs and the zones are local to the Omni Pro II, you should use the 10A06 expander. Up to 2x of those can be put on a panel before you need to go to the 17A00 giving you 48 on-board zones.

Thanks. I am close to filling up my second 17A00, so I am trying to figure out my next steps.. Perhaps I am missing something, but I can't just see getting another battery and power supply every time I want to add an additional 16 input zones. I would have to imagine that you can power at least 3 17A009 off of the same transformer and battery. Since you only use a single transformer/battery to power the onboard 16 zones and 2 expanders and that is the same number of zones as 3 17A009s.

It just really feels like HAI is lacking in the zone expansion space.

If you don't need the outputs, just use the 10A06, which will attach directly to the Omni's main board and give you 16 more zones.
