I started researhing distributed audio about a month ago to add to my system. Unfortunately, I came across CQC (and ML) and got completely sidetracked with "scope creep". After lurking for the past month, I've come to the conclusion that the big weakness in going this route is the touchscreen interface: most have problems like size, no dock, RDP issues, cost, etc. I just came across these, and since I haven't seen them posted anywhere, and when I called Advantech they told me they were brand new, I though I'd put them up for comment.
Since they will be a network node, they avoid all the RDP issues. (They run Win CD 5.0).
Both have microphone & speakers.
Both are 7", which seems like a near optimum size for most locations
The UbiQ-370 (Mobile A/V Controller) is portable but has a stand and a wall mount available (my big problem with Q1). It also has some hard buttons, but not a whole blippin keyboard. It has WiFi (b/g) as well as ZigBee!
The UbiQ-470 is a wall mount, supports MPEG-4 @ 30fps, has IR.
OK, but the big question: what about $$$? Good news: a helluvalotta less than Nobu, but more than a used ELO+Wyse.
UbiQ-370 = $900
UbiQ-450 = $800
This sounds pretty good to me. Am I missing something? Any comments/pros/cons?
