Adventures with GE 250-CO Carbon Monixide Detector

I ordered the GS 250-CO Carbon Monoxide detector to add to my new M1G panel. I installed the 250-CO according to the wiring instructions in the installation sheet that accompanied the 250-CO. This link shows the wiring I used for a Single Device - Single Zone, althought the document at the link is not the complete installation instructions that came with the device.

http://www.gesecurity.com/portal/GESDownlo...cumenttype=Data Sheet

The wiring shows a resister in parallel with the Normally Open (NO) primary alarm circuit and in series with the Normally Closed (NC) supervisory circuit. This is the same as a Type 5 4-Wire Fire Zone "Trouble on Open, Alarm on Short" (page 31 of the M1G Installation Manual).

Note to SPANKY - it would be great if the M1G would support TYPE=5 on Zone 17 = Carbon Monoxide.

Anyway, the first 250-CO I received would not alarm the panel during test so I returned it to my vendor for a replacement. The new 250-CO I received had the same problem so I contacted GESecurity. With some coaxing, the rep must not have been busy even thought he said he was not allowed to talk to me, I discovered there was an omission in the device TESTING procedure detailed in the installation instructions.

In order to alarm the panel, the test buttom must be depressed for 8-10 seconds. The installation text procedure says the test will work with only a monentary press of the test button. A monentary press will cause the 250-CO to alarm but it will not alarm the panel unless the TEST button is held for a much longer period of time.

I hope this info will help others who may order this sensor.
