airport security

Just venting ...

Yesterday I got stopped in the Atlanta airport after I got irradiated.
Screener - Is there anything in your left pocket?
Me - No.
Screener - Are you sure?
Me - Check pocket. I find a tiny scrap of paper from a life saver roll.
I give him the "are you f-ing kidding me" look.
He pats me down and I'm on my way.

I just unpacked my backpack from the trip.
In the bottom, I find one of those PCI cover plates from a desktop PC.
Its just a piece of flimsy sheet metal (with sharp edges), but it could just have easily
been a piece of hardened stainless with a razors edge that would fit into
a custom plastic handle disguised as a hair brush.

Our tax dollars at work. What a joke.

I have a screw driver which fits in a wallet (basically a thick but sharp piece of metal, the size of a credit card), and they are never bothered by it. I don't know if they recognize it, or if they just don't see it (also have a paperclip in my wallet). It's definitely a security 'theater', but I don't see that getting better anytime soon. I just read that they are expanding this program to trains/busses as well now.
