Alarm Sensor Wiring

I am looking for ideas on how to run my wires for window sensors. In particular how to make them look neat where they exit the wall to the senor. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Personally I have tried to use sensors which I can put into the window sill/door frame, so to avoid that. But so not to void the guarantee on the windows I know some people use surface mount units. I would just try to keep the wires straight, and stuck down to the surface, painted to match the same color of the object it is going on... As for motions ect.. I tried to punch the wires out right behind the sensor so no wires are visible.

Yea,
I wanted to put them in the frame rail, but my windows design, doesnt allow for those. :D so I must use the old standard contacts which I really dont care about, just want the wires to look neat going through the wall.

I decided to use surface mount sensors on some of our double-hung windows, but I tried to minimize the impact by using tiny ones by Tane: https://www.tselectronic.com/tane/tanemicro.html They are made with very small wires attached, and I ran them through a hole in the window stool directly under the stationary contact. I installed sensors only on the lower sash because we never open the upper sash.

I don't expect these sensors to detect entry because I think a thief would break the window glass to enter as the latches on our vinyl window frames are probably much stronger than the frames themselves. I consider the magnetic switches as a clue to us if we left a window open when we go to arm the system. I have PIRs and glass break sensors in the vulnerable areas to detect intruders.

Photon,
Do you have a pic of your sensor placement?

Thanks
Brian

These windows are in our unfinished walk-out basement. I'm still experimenting with placement. I'm not thrilled with either of these. I'd probably like them better if I spray-painted them the sash color.

How do you guys terminate a garage door contact? It has the shielded metal piece over the wires for about 12 inches. Any ideas to make it look good?

I would run that pigtail into a 4x4 metal box with correct clamps on the armored wire, and make connection in the box, to standard alarm cable then run it out another knockout in the box back to the alarm panel

I mounted mine as close together as possible. I also spray painted each one to match the window color. They look great now...the attached pic is when they had just installed the window sills, and there was dust and caulk everywhere. I'll try to get a better picture soon. Also, I used a small 22ga wire (typical size) for my contacts, which made the wire less noticable.

Here's a good one...

About 1 day after the pre-wire was complete i realized our windows are all double hung so after you undo the latch you can lower the upper window and the good ole' sensor wont see a thing.

Ofcourse it's not as easy to climb through the top, but still.

Do you guys put 2 sensors in when dealing with doublehung windows?

That's what I did. Twice the work, and twice the number of things that can break...but whatcha gonna do??

*shiver* I think I'll always have nightmares of going out to the house after work in the dark cold woods in winter and having to open windows letting in the cold wind to install sensors by the meager illumination of a flashlight. *shudder*

I installed sensors only on the lower sash, and only on the most vulnerable windows in our house. They are mostly there so we don't have to go downstairs to check the windows before we arm the system. I think someone wanting to enter through one of these windows would follow a rock through the glass, for which I installed glass-break sensors. If he goes to the extra time and trouble to enter through the upper sash, the PIRs will let us know. I may eventually have PIRs or IR beams outside so we will know before the actual entry.
