Almond+

No, using that link would have shown the announcement multiple times (plus it was pinned on top of every forum page).

Well the problem is that there are so many devices out there to support.  The chat session showed the company is very responsive to user demand, so if enough people request ELK support, then I don't think it would be a problem.

That said, it's a linux based platform, and the ELK protocol is very easy to implement, I don't see why someone wouldn't write a driver if Securifi ends up putting it on the back burner (heck, I might do it myself).  I don't think it's fair to compare the router to the Pebble, but if you are really concerned, read the transcript, it put my mind at ease.

Out of curiousity, how did you miss the chat announcement?  I tried to post a notice everywhere, but looks like I might have missed something.

I haven't been on the forum in a couple of months. I guess I'm weary of kickstarter projects. I've been part of two that haven't worked out very well (Pebble and SimpleTV), and to shell out money for something that may support ELK.....epsecially when the developer has no clue what ELK is scares me a little. I'm just being a little overly catious that is all. :) If it all works out its a killer deal for $99.

3rd party developers can make apps for it. Who cares if they won't support it? Someone will make a plugin or port it from another system.

That is a big advantage with a developer willing to release their API over others! ;)

My prediction for Almond+ (I ordered one) is that when it's released, the functionality will be limited.  But, being that others can write plugins for it, I don't think it will take long before it's a serious contender in the HA realm.  I have a Vera now, and while I really like it, a LOT of people on the Vera forums are upset with MiCasaVerde because they don't release updates/bugfixes regularly, the fact that they make it look easy to do anything when you actually have to write LUA to do most of the things you want, and promised features that were never delivered (such as theming support in UI5).  Many of these guys ordered an Almond+ in the hope of switching, and some of them are people who have been doing a lot of coding for the Vera platform.

Let's face it, HA is a niche market.  And selling a bunch of $189-300 boxes that only do HA cannot exactly be a lucrative endeavor.  How long is Vera going to be around?  I hope for a long time, but you never know.  Almond+ is gonna sell a ton of these $99 boxes because that's a damn cheap price for an 802.11ac access-point, and that's where most of their sales are gonna come from.  The added benefit is the HA functionality.  It's a cheaper box, but it's likely they'll be better funded because of sheer volume.

This is my favorite goofing around picture.  Note its just props with Betty and the "Furby".

Mostly bug my daughter with the Furby; as she assumes it staring at her.
