Announce Zone Troubles

Hi all

Does anyone know how to announce when a zone is in trouble state??

I currently have my PIR wired in 4 state zone supervised on open "ie tamper and alarm circuit connected via EOL".

If my system is in a disarmed state and i open the PIR cover to trip the tamper the keypad displays zone trouble. Is it possible to annouce this zone trouble or even better sound the alarm.

I've also noticed in the status screen in ELKRP the zone trouble does not display in the "System Alarms and Troubles" but shows that the zone is in trouble state.

Many Thanks

Anthony

I'm still having trouble getting the system to announce a zone trouble. I have the following rule setup.

WHENEVER BURGLAR TROUBLE, ANY ZONE IS DETECTED THEN ANNOUNCE Trouble (vm307)

To test the rule i open my pir and the zone status turns to trouble but the rule does not execute

Any ideas

Thanks

On a EOL burg zone violated is normally open and trouble is shorted. Burg troubles will only show up if defined as a supervised zone with two EOL resistors.

Try writing a rule:
WHENEVER Zone X BECOMES NOT SECURE - SHORTED (under the advanced selection)
THEN do something.

I have the PIR wired with two EOL resistors and configured as Zone Type 04 - Supervised on Open. when i open the pir cover the status screen in NessRP shows trouble but the rule does not fire.

I just tried the following rule and it works.

WHENEVER Study PIR (Zn 16) BECOMES NOT SECURE - OPEN LOOP THEN ANNOUNCE Trouble (vm307)

But why doesn't this rule work

WHENEVER BURGLAR TROUBLE, ANY ZONE IS DETECTED THEN ANNOUNCE Trouble (vm307)

Is this a bug??? The status screen clearly shows trouble status for zone 16 but does not fire the rule. Why isn't the trouble listed in the System alarms and troubles section ???
I've also tried another PIR on zone 12 configured the same way to rule out the possibilty that zone 16 is restricted for smoke detectors.

Zone 16, the "study PIR" is showing "open circuit, 13.5 volts" and "trouble". It seems to me it should be in the "violated" state not "trouble" state with an open circuit. "Trouble" should occur when the circuit is shorted.

Maybe it's a bug in the status display. What do you say, Spanky?

To hijack this thread a little, what setting do I set in RP to disable the Arm/Disarm messages only? I come in some nights after my wife is asleep, and I don't need the message telling me I just disarmed the alarm, or to tell me when I re-arm it. I don't want to affect other important messages.

Thanks,

Kevin

The PIR have NC alarm and tamper loops, i tried setting the zone type to 03 Supervised on Close but i get a trouble status when motion is detected and violated when the tamper is tripped.

Im sure i have the PIR wired correctly, it's setup as described in the ELK manual for four state conditioning.

Strange thing i noticed when i trip my panel tamper - set up as type 09 the trouble display shows box tamper and beeps the keypad.

I'm confused why the system does not pickup the trouble condiction when the status clearly shows trouble.

I will have to check out the Rule firing of a burg trouble in the 4 state supervisory mode. It is not used very much so it deserves some extra attention. I do not recall the specs calling for Rule firing in that mode. If it is not working, I will make it work.

Thanks for the input. :)

Hi Anthony,

To have it speak when disarmed (i.e. someone takes the cover off the PIR when the panel is disarmed, hence causing a "Security Alert") then program a rule like;

WHENEVER SECURITY (DAY) ALERT ACTIVATES
THEN Speak ...........

Greg

Thanks for the response.

I've tried the suggested rule but it still does not work :)

Anthony,

Make sure your zone type is set as an Burglar Entry/Exit (1 or 2) and not Burglar Interior.

The Security Alert for '04 Supervised on Open' currently only works with Entry/Exit type zones. Although set for Entry / exit the Security Alert will occur instantly the zone is open.

Greg

Thank Greg

It works. I no longer need the rules as the keypad beeps when ever the Security Day Alert occurs.

Spanky

Any reason why it doesn't work on type Burglar Interior, as this shows trouble condition on the keypad but does not beep or fire the rule.

Thanks

Anthony
