Another one bites the dust

No warning, nothing. Just a "Hey Terry, can we see you in the conference room for a minute?". I suspect that they'll replace me with somebody fresh out of college at 1/2 to 2/3 my salary or the department "favorite" that coincidentally moved into the team this morning. Anybody need a IT Project Manager with an industrial automation background in the Alabama area? At least I have time to get Sage working now... :)

Terry

Really sorry to hear that! Don't hesitate to post your resume in the Classifieds section, since you do have an automation background. Many manufacturers monitor this board, so it's worth a shot. Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks, I'll do that. I'm trying to decide exactly what I want to do. I love the process automation stuff that I did in my old job, and would love to transition to HA. Too bad the industry is still tanking somewhat. Alabama is slow to adapt in that field anyway. Everyone tells me that's what I need to do though so we'll see. I've got twenty years combined experience in IT, industrial automation and Project Management so I feel like I have marketable skills - it's just been a looong time since I've had to look around.

I hate the situation, but my position had become stagnant and management had been unreceptive to ideas for improvement in my department so I'm choosing to look at this as a chance for me to excel somewhere else. I know I'm just one of many thousand that have been let go in this economy, it's a sad but all-too-real example of what's happening everywhere.

That being said, there is still money to be made for those that can adapt to the changing changing world.

Dang Terry, sorry to hear that. That starts 2010 off on a sour note.

Thanks. Yeah no kidding - Definitely not what I was expecting this morning. The irony is that this was one of those mornings that I hit the ground running and was ready to get a lot accomplished. I even got to the office 30 minutes earlier than usual... :)

Sorry to hear that, Terry. At least they had the decency to wait until after the holidays and to tell you in person.

Good luck with the job hunt.

Kevin

Terry; Sorry to hear of the job loss.
Mine happened in early August.

Maybe twenty two years ago. The company; I then worked for; took Christmas break and on Dec 26 they called all of us by phone and said. "We are closed and Bankrupt. Last week pay gone along with any owed vacation and personal pay". At least you had through the 2009 holidays.

Sorry to hear that Terry. I know too many people in your situation right now. All good, talented folk. And for those that have "been around" the outlook is bleak (meaning old guys like me, I'm 52).

The job I did 15 years ago, that paid $25.00/hour then, is now paying $15.00. Not pretty.

But with your automation background, I gotta think you'll bounce back pretty quick.

Terry,

My sympathies. I went through it almost ten years ago and it feels like a death in the family. Post Y2K, post dot.com bubble ... it was a soft time for IT and I got the axe. Then post 911 ... unstable times; it took me awhile to find solid ground. But eventually I found some and so will you.

Best of luck with your job search.

Terry, I'm not aware of anything specific, but it seems like companies in Huntsville are always looking for good IT people. Atlanta too.

Terry,

Sorry to hear about the loss. If not each and every one of us... at least most of us have been there at one time or another. It always works out.

True, I've been through it!

Now I'm in a job that has allow my wife and I to further our family with our two blessed boys! Couldn't have done it without the wife working at the lasst job. Now, I make enough to support the whole family!

It will work out!

Sorry to hear that ;)

I wish you good luck. Sometimes these things lead to better opportunity.

BTW I am originally from Verbena, AL.. just down the road from you

Wow, Terry, sorry to hear that! But I believe at some point you'll look back on this as a blessing in disguise. It gives you an opportunity to decide on a new direction, learn new stuff, maybe relax awhile. I suppose you can tell, I'm a "glass half full" person. Good Luck, wherever the opportunity takes you.
