Another pool thing

I have a Jandy RS pool/spa controller. Really nice, but would be a lot smarter if I connected to Elk, and other HA.
The Jandy runs an RS485 bus and would normally require a ridiculously ($400 plus) RS485 to RS232 board.
The Elk runs an RS485 bus and would also require an adapter.

I really don't think a direct connection would work, but what about the M!XSP serial interface which seems to be able to bridge from Elk's RS485 to other mfr's RS485?

I dont know if this would work but what about these adapters def not $400+ http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AZRC46

While you might be able to use RS-485 adapters, there is probably a proprietary protocol running on top of this (as is the case with the M1), so I think you might be out of luck here.

Probably true
I assume the conversion from 232 protocol, which is pretty standard, to the Elk 485 protocol is handled within the M1SXP.
So then the conversion from "other" 485 protocol to Elk is also handled the same way?
So if Elk had a large enough demand, it would only be a firmware issue?

Are there any"universal" methods/programs to handle conversions like that?
