Another Radio Shack Z-Wave sale!

I flashed my IPCams yesterday. Very quick (5 minutes); they work well. I haven't tested it with Zoneminder yet. I'm at 11 cams with 3 of them being IP cams in ZM and pushing the CPU into the 90% plus range. I'm concerned if I add another IPCam; it'll push ZM over the edge. I'll probably just replace the Trendnet which I was testing with this one.

Has anyone been able to connect to these over the internet? I cannot seem to. Have forwarded the 1024 and 8035 ports to the camera ip, but no connections.

If you are talking about the web interface, you shouldn't need more than forwarding HTTP. From what I can tell the cameras support RTSP as well (which defaults to 554 iirc).

Here's a quickie side by side with the Trendnet IP Cam (purchased on sale for $69 USD). Frame rates are similiar with Zoneminder. Both IP cams are in a window sil. One is facing the East and one is facing the West. Pushing Zoneminder now to 99% CPU utilization with the add of a 3rd IP camera (8 analogue and 4 IPcams). Without the IP cams CPU utilization is at about 60%. Not a bad deal at $25.

Here a couple more links to check out the detail a bit more good and bad points

FYI- I just bought $1000 worth of the switches and door locks at Radio Shack and have since found out that all of my upstairs wiring (done by electrician when house new in 2005)will not worth with the 3-ways. The wiring downstairs which I did myself this fall will work fine. Basically if your 3-way wiring circuit has 12/3 going from both switch boxes to the light fixture, you might be screwed. Hopefully and electrician can step in and prove me incorrect.

I've been able to get these 3 way switches to work with many different 3 way wiring scenarios. I'm not sure what your scenario is but I've been able to work with an electrician to get them all worked out. Since you have 12/3 wire you will have a spare wire to communicate between the two devices. The way these 3 ways work is that only one of the switches actually does the switching. The other switch just needs power and ground and 1 wire to connect directly to the other switch. When you hit a button on the aux switch it just passes a command over the traveler wire and has the main switch turn on. Nothing is wireless, you just need one free wire that travels between the switches.

Chewie - I have added one to Zoneminder with the same image setting as I posted for HS. Seems to work OK so far but is low frame rate. Need someone to figure out the mpeg settings.

Monk,

Try /img/mjpeg.cgi, see how that suits you.

I get around 14-15 FPS with the RS IPCam with ZM. That's the same as the budget Trendnet, Panasonic IP Cam and the Foscam (with regular light.

What is the FPS you see in ZM?

Here is a post that I put up on the Homeseer site.

Updated FW on IPCams that I purchased. Easy. Here are the instructions. If you have never done anything like this or do not feel comfortable doing the firmware upgrade please don't attempt it; you can brick your camera.

Download the software used to flash the firmware at:

http://www.everbesthk.com/8-download/sercomm/firmware/NU54/Upgrade_207_XP.zip

Download the firmware to flash the IP camera at:

http://www.northq.com/download/9006/FW-NQ-9006.1009.zip

Install the software. Use compatibility mode if you are using W7. The application will not run in 64 Bit mode.

1 - Connect the included cable to the IPCam
2 - Install the camera on the same network switch as the upgrading machine.
3 - then insert a paperclip into the reset hole on the side of the unit.
4 - While holding down the reset button, plug in the power adapter.
5 - This will put the device into a firmware upgrade mode.
6 - The power light should flash while the network light should stay solid

Firmware upgrade
1 - You have the run the updater as THE administrator, not just as an administrator in MS Windows 7
2 - Open the Upgrade Utility app you installed earlier,
3 - select your current network adapter, the click browse targets.
4 - If the application finds the device,
5 - click on the Files button then
6 - navigate to where you saved the firmware file.
7 - Once you're ready, click on upgrade.
8 - It should wipe the EEPROM, write the new firmware, then
9 - verify that the image has been written successfully.

The process should take about 5 minutes or so. When it's finished, the device will reboot and once the power and network lights are solid, you should be good to go.

It will pull an IP from your DHCP server. The login is "Administrator" with no password (Blank).

This is the default screen of the IP Camera once you've updated the firmware.

Users of MS IE will need to download an activex component to use the camera.

Outstanding tutorial..

I only purchased Radio Shack GE lamp, appliance and outdoor switches.

None of the the ones that I have tested so far have done a "flash and burn" as one of the Intermatic ones did. I'm using less than 10 right now and they work OK connected to the Leviton PIM / HAI OPII. I tested the appliance modules on the Landscaping transformers and they pop the breakers as the Intermatic ones did. I like the design of the Intermatic switches better than the GE switches. Even though I had an issue with the Intermatic switch; these seem a bit better constructed than the GE Switch. None the less purchased remaining stock of the GE switches in a couple of stores one day a few months back to play with.

I'm still moving ahead with my UPB installation a bit at a time. (IE: one endeavor was 2 3 ways setups - only got as far as the first one playing with the physical constraints of the actual switch - I made the switch fit anyways).
