Any update on Leviton Vizia RF availabiliy?

I just got off the phone with Leviton.

The Leviton Vizia stuff will not be available before the end of January at best. There may a release of a limited supply of plug-in modules before that but that won't do anyone any good because the Leviton Zwave stuff will require the Leviton Zwave remote (yes, required) that won't be released until the switches are available.
Hi Martin, All:

Okay, I'll squash this rumor ;) The plug-in modules and light switches from Leviton can be used in any home, with any Primary controller. They will turn on/off and get status just like the Intermatic plug-ins. I've been adding them to networks for quite a while using a standard Intermatic, ACT, or Wayne-Dalton remote.

That's why we have the basic interoperability of Z-Wave devices.

[Please do remember that manufacturers can add extra features to their devices which go above and beyond the Z-Wave spec; in those cases it is possible that your existing remote might not understand how to control the advanced features--but that's true with Bluetooth or any other standard as well.]

oh thank god. Not just that it's not true, but also that you visit this site to confirm or squash rumors. Obviously understand about the extension stuff, just like every other standard, but as long as it doesn't make the base protocol unusable i'm fine.

Thanks again for reaching out.

Chris, you're making it increasingly difficult to rant and rave about Z-Wave and I wish it would stop.

You keep addressing these issues with your crazy facts based in truth and knowledge and we may just have to find something else to bitch and moan about.

Knock it off already, wouldja? Sheesh.

As far as linking, there are Z-Wave switches that are only responders. The ones that can control other switches are sometimes called transmitters.

I miss the link 'everything to everything' ability that INSTEON has. The newer Z-Wave switches will probably have a similar feature available.
Am I making a huge stretch here to think that "transmitters" are also "responders"? For example Leviton list several switches some of which are for multiway setups. I guess these will only notify the main switch of a status change and not be able to create scenes.

As for the linking everything to everything that Insteon can do, that is the one function of Insteon I really like. I like the Insteon features, it just the hardware is not ready for prime time.

An example is I have a switch in the MBR that will turn on all the lights in both the MBR and Master Bath. The theory being that you can also turn off all the lights as you leave the room. However, you can also turn on the three Master Bath lights individually. And still be able to turn them off withthe switch by the door when yu leave the room. Can something similar be done with Z-Wave?

Thanks.

Note: I may order a few of the Monster switches since they look identical to the Vizia ones and give them a try in a couple of places I haven't put Insteon ones in yet. Or maybe replace the blinking dining rooms ones.

Herdfan,

When I mentioned transmitter, I was thinking of a device like a ZTW100 that is a wired in transmitter only (no load control). I am still waiting to see if the new multi button switches have a local load control ability. I hope they do, if not I may need to do a little creative wiring. Anyone use any of these new devices yet? I know they are not yet for sale but there are always a few development models floating around.

Ken

Hi Ken,

For the 4-button VIZIA RF scene/zone controllers, be sure to leave an extra spot for them--they only control other devices.
