Anyone from Tennessee?

You ain't seen no skeeters till you live down here. I swear some are human size and can carry you away.

From the itchy bumps I had on the tops of my ears once (it was the only part still exposed), I'd be willing to bet a pint of blood that they're worse in AK. There was a serious movement once to make them the state bird. We once ran all-out back into the car to get away from them because we dared to venture out without being completely deet'ed.

...gah, I still have the nightmares about that place. It's the most beautiful place you'll ever run away screaming from.

The mosquitos in Minnesota were really bad also, The land of 10,000 lakes, so lots of area for them to breed.
I did read that eastern Tennessee had some kind of mosquito abatement program and that it was not a big problem there.

Huntsville is a nice area as well. Our winters are about 3 months long and we occasionally dip below 10 but it's generally only once or twice a winter. Spring is long and nice, summers are hot and damp. Just as a point of reference, I just mowed my lawn for the 4th time on Tuesday. I live about 20 minutes from the Tennessee line and spend most every weekend in south central Tennessee at one of the prettiest lakes around - Tims Ford lake. It's a short hop to Chattanooga with the aquarium and Chattanooga Choo - Choo. ;) It's only 5.5 hours to the whitest sand beaches you've ever seen, and 1.5 hours from Nashville or Birmingham. How that for an advertisement. Come on down and we'll go boating.
