Anyone using a UPS with their OPII?

I was thinking of installing a small UPS near my media panel / alarm panel to power all the 10 little AC/DC transformers and the HAI 24VAC transformer. I have a small 24 port / 8 port network switch in the panel and my W2C and CID boxes.

Would it do any harm to the HAI OPII connecting it to a UPS?

It won't do any harm to it, but it would impact your ability to use any AC failure notification logic. If you still needed/wanted AC failure notification, you could use an AC powered relay as an input the the panel to send notifications.

No, but you wont get an AC failure message from the panel until the UPS failed.I have a TrippLite UPS in the can for the misc stuff, but not the panel supply.

Thank you for your input.

I have all the power (including the panel PS) coming to one cable for power. I could put another 120VAC connection inside just for the panel.

That's what I'd do. If you have concerns about the panel staying up through an extended power outage, add a second battery.

i think an UPS might cause interference with your X10, Insteon hard wired signals.
similar to a monitor and PC.

search for x10 interference

i know when i have my computer plugged in too close to my X10 transmitter/panel/device some x10 close by won't turn ON/OFF.

But its not in my HAI can, its in my accessory can. My HAI system is using the normal batteries. The install is slllooowwwy reaching completion (well, we know its never actually complete) so hopefully soon I will put up a gallery with some pics.

Has anyone opened up one of the Tripp Lite AV550SC UPSs to see if the battery is user-replaceable? I still can't find a replacement battery store that lists a replacement battery for these units. Mine still has a year on the warranty and is working okay, so I don't want to open it up and void the warranty.

As long as the voltage, amperage and dimensions are the same, you should be able to replace it. I doubt they are having custom batteries made just for that unit.

I've never opened up my Tripplite SmartPro 750 but have all of the APC's and while different they all used stock easy to find batteries.

Even the Tripp Lite web site's replacement battery selector doesn't show anything for the AV550SC. I have close to a dozen UPS's of various sizes, manufacturers, technologies, price ranges, etc. I can easily find replacement batteries online for all of them except the AV550SC. Just sayin'...

With the short power outages I've had in the last few months I personally didn't see a need for more than one battery inside of the HAI can. I did have two batteries in the old house / old alarm panel can.

Is there a means to check the power draw on the panel other than manually adding what I have plugged into the panel?

I have recently enabled the use of multiple APC UPS's around the house, purchased a couple of newer Tripplite UPS's and 3 Cyberpower UPS's with no ill effects on the x10/UPB that I have installed. (from what I can see).
