Anyone's Rhino tags coming loose?

Hey all,

I put a lot of tags on my cables a few months ago using the Rhino 3000 and DYMO Flexible 1/2" Nylon Tape

And primarilly on the cables where the tables were on a bend in the cable they are coming loose around the edges. They are not falling of, but just starting to come loose.

Anybody else experiencing this? What can i do to prevent it? I really don't want to go the heatshrink route if i can avoid it.

Yep, mine are doing it too. I can't remember the different types but the Rhino labels that aren't as glossy seem to hold better. Also they are much easier to get the backing off of. I try to use the heat shrink labels wherever possible, but if there are already ends on I have to use sticky labels.

Yeah, they don't hold very well. Clear shrink tubing or tape will help.

I put my first ones on ~8 months ago, checked a few last night. No problems here, but it's in the air conditioned closet (with a dehumidifier). I put mine on like this:

I think I'll switch to heat shrink - I bought a cheap heat gun, primarily for some electronics work. Those heat shrink labels are just so darn expensive, though, for the Dymo.

IIRC, cheaper heat shrink labels were previously available from a 'different' company (same manufacturer), but aren't sold anymore.

I use heat shrink now since most of my labels seemed to peel off. You're correct, the heat shrink stuff is expensive. a 1/4"x5' roll is $36, and you go through 5 feet pretty darn fast!

I suspect that the flag style labeling will last a long time. If you use the wrap style it seems that every diameter that I use, mostly coax and cat5 is peeling. Sort of disappointing, but even the peeling ones are completely readable.

Eventhough they are peeling, are they falling off or coming loose completely? I agree the peeling isn't great, but if they stay on then i don't care too much. I'm certainly not going back to redo all of them (take of wallplates, etc, no way).

Can you one of these turbo lighters (the ones with higher pressure gas i guess) to shrink the heat shrink?

Mavric, I'm not using heat shrink, that would require being a bit more organized than I can be expected. Mine are various widths of the vinyl labels.

I did the bulk of mine about two years ago, using the yellow nylon stock.

None are loose, on the contrary, the ones I've changed take a little work to get off.

We're doing our server room with these now with the 3/4" flexible nylon and they seem to be working well... did my whole alarm install with them too. Like brotsten said above - when I have to remove one, it tends to leave some trace behind - it doesn't like to come off... However, I would personally try to avoid putting the label where you need it to bend - just 2" down and it'll probably be fine.

Yup, it's been over a year for me. I moved a bunch of stuff and peeled off the labels and re-stuck them (flex nylon that comes with the unit) and they are still holding fine!

A lot of mine are falling off. I "upgraded" to simply using a Sharpie and have not had a problem since .

If only i could find a color that stands out on black cables...

simple... the silver metallic works great. Dry time is a bit longer though... it'll get on your hands too.
