Since this is worldwide, we may expect a bigger worldwide economic depression than the infamous early 20th century one.

Hopefully they learned something about "fixing it" last time.

Two days ago I stopped in at four different grocery chain stores in three different cities. It is a very eerie feeling to see every store completely void of toilet paper and other paper products. Also, the empty shelves of canned vegetables was scary. I joked to my wife that the only vegetables left were the ones packed in China.

The retailers must be loving this but the rebound, when people do not need groceries for a month, will cause some depression on the other side as well.

On the flip side, I bought gas for the vehicle at 80.6 cents CAD per litre. I haven't seen that price for 10-15 years. Mexico was running about $1.30 CAD per litre, two weeks ago. Multiple by 3.78 to get US gallons then divide by 1.36 for USD.

We did the weekly grocery shopping on Saturday and noticed the same and other basic stuff not on the shelves.

Gasoline is down some but many gas stations here in the midwest have kept the prices up or higher...(price gouging - what a joke).

Can someone explain to me the need to stockpile toilet paper? I don't see the virus affecting the supply of toilet paper but the people who are panicking and filling their basements with it certainly will.

And the food is perishable. you can only fit so much chicken in the average size freezer. There is going to be a lot of food thrown away and it's a sin.

People should consider the fact that by hoarding goods they are depriving others. Doctors and dentists and other health care professionals who are risking exposing themselves to help others can't get face masks while the same people that they are helping  are stacking them up in their basements.

Think people!

The numbers will change as they come in but existing information on the virus show that a 60 year old man has about a 2% chance of dying if he gets this virus. It is less for younger men and for women. The Corona Virus is not a death sentence. It is more dangerous for the elderly and people with certain existing problems. I've had several surgeries in my life and never has a surgeon given me such great odds of surviving.

the only special shopping that I have done is to buy Nyquil and tylenol.

Mike.

We are currently waiting for our PM Trudeau to make an announcement at 1:00 PM. Yeh..check the time.

He made his last 1:00 PM announcement at 1:23 PM just before Trump, not to be outdone, did his 27 minutes late. So we figure Trudeau will be about 30-35 minutes late this time just to have one up on Trump. :)

UPDATE: Trudeau was about 38 minutes late. Trump that one! LOL

People are hoping Trudeau will move a little faster, as Trump did, instead of doing the chickenshit thing like last time.  Many businesses are closing their doors already.

We just lost about $200 for a hotel room cancellation in the US. Might be able to recoup it later once governments make official bans.....if they ever do.

Canada closed it's borders to everybody except for our best friends, US citizens.

Basically, you must be tested for COVID-19 at the leaving aeroport, and if you are positive, you cannot come to Canada, even if you are Canadian. They will send money later.
